The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in the World Series for the first time since 1981. The two teams have a storied rivalry dating back to when the Dodgers were based in Brooklyn before relocating to the West Coast in 1958, and they battled each other for the World Series title a total of 11 times, with the Yankees winning eight of them (1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1963, 1956, 1977, and 1978).
Neither team has spared any expense to bring on some of the best players in Major League Baseball, and their contracts didn’t come cheap. The collective salaries of the Yankees’ 26-player active roster — based on data compiled by Spotrac — amounted to $263 million for 2024. By comparison, the Dodgers’ roster salaries amounted to $266 million.

Who are the highest-paid Yankees players?
Aaron Judge, who plays center field and right field, is the highest-paid player on the Yankees team. At the end of 2022, Judge signed a 9-year contract valued at $360 million, and that puts his average 2024 salary at $40 million. Gerrit Cole, a starting pitcher, is the second-highest-paid player at $36 million. In 2019, he signed a 9-year, $324 million contract.
Giancarlo Stanton rounds out the top three, with his salary this year at $32 million. The Yankees took over Stanton’s 13-year, $325 million contract with the Miami Marlins. By the time he signed with the Bronx Bombers in 2017, his deal with the Marlins had already been three years in.
Juan Soto, who signed a 1-year, $31 million deal with the Yankees for this year, will become a free agent after this season, and he is reportedly set to sign a multi-year contract that could be valued at at least $500 million with any team willing to pay.
