Royal Caribbean can’t give crew members time off during the Christmas season because those are very expensive cruise weeks when every sailing is usually sold out. With kids off from school, many cruise ships will sail at maximum capacity, pushing every facility onboard to its breaking point.
Crew members arguably have more work during the holidays because there are more people to serve and take care of.
That does not mean that Royal Caribbean ignores its crew. The cruise line does make a real effort to offer its crew members some special occasions, parties, gifts, and meals for Christmas.
Lyra Synchro, an entertainer for Royal Caribbean, decided to share what Christmas was like last year on Oasis of the Seas. Entertainers have more freedom than regular crew members, as when they’re not rehearsing or performing, they have blocks of time they can get off the ship.
Synchro and her fellow cast members used that to their advantage to have a memorable Christmas.
