With the start of a brand new year, most people have a list of resolutions they would like to achieve throughout the year since it gives them a set dateline to accomplish these goals.
Although most people are committed to checking off all their New Year’s resolutions by making multiple lifestyle changes and quitting bad habits, some tend to give up on those goals within the first month of the year.

Walmart took the saying “New year, new me” very seriously this year and decided to have a complete rebrand to welcome 2025 on the right note.

However, customers’ reactions to Walmart’s fresh rebranding might not have gotten the exact reception the company expected.

Walmart announces a new rebranding and logo that will represent the company moving forward
On Monday, Walmart (WMT) announced the unveiling of its updated brand identity, featuring a new logo for 2025 and surprising customers with the unexpected news.
This rebrand would mark the retail giant’s first logo refresh in nearly two decades. The last time Walmart refreshed its logo was in 2008 when it removed its star symbol, which was placed between “Wal” and “Mart,” making it one word and adding its signature yellow spark next to it.
Walmart emphasized that this rebrand is “a testament to heritage and innovation” and added that the “refreshed look will embrace both evolution and legacy to better serve customers.”

This updated brand identity is a commitment to its customers since it shows that the retail giant is continuously making efforts to better adapt to the ever-evolving retail environment, representing the one-stop shopping destination it is today.
“While the look and feel of our brand is more contemporary, our refreshed brand identity reflects Walmart’s enduring commitment to both Sam’s principles and serving our customers however they need us. As our customers evolve, we will too,” said Walmart CEO William White. “Our Walmart will always be their Walmart, and our brand will always be a testament to how we innovate and change alongside them,” he added.

Although Walmart alluded to a complete refresh, customers think otherwise. The new logo’s color palette still features its recognizable tones, “True Blue and Spark Yellow,” and its signature spark.
According to its rollout plan, Walmart said that the process of implementing this new logo began in October 2024 with a store in Springdale, Arkansas, the retail giant’s birth state. The retail giant will redesign the rest of its over 10,500 stores throughout 2025. This month, the new logo will also be implemented in its app and eCommerce websites across 19 countries.
When the new logo was finally revealed, customers were quick to react to the unexpected rebrand and took to social media to express their thoughts:

One X user trolled Walmart’s graphic design team, commenting, “Graphic designer really selected the yellow parts, bumped the stroke thickness up 5-6 points, wiped their hands together and satisfiedly said, “Welp, my job here is done.”

Another user on X compared the new logo to her drawings as a child, posting, “A lot of people are hating on the Walmart logo redesign, but if you’ve ever been a third-grade girl, you can tell that the new logo is completely different — the old one is a sun, and the new one is a flower.”
Needless to say, customers were not impressed by Walmart’s rebranding. However, despite all the trolling on social media platforms, the retail giant still generated $648 billion in total revenues in fiscal 2024.
