It has been a banner few years for new cruise ship construction.

Ships are being ordered years out and cruise lines have committed to billion of dollars in new builds. Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Lines have been leaders hear with both companies having ships on order that will carry them through the late 2020s and even in the early 2030s.

New ships have proven to be wildly successful with Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, the first of its class, selling out routinely at very high prices. Utopia of the Seas, the world’s newest cruise ship, and all three of Carnival’s Excel-class ships have been wildly successful.

Cruise lines, of course, don’t build their own ships. They contract that out to shipyards and mayhem broke out at the yard building Carnival’s Princess Cruises’ latest ship.

Royal Caribbean orders new Celebrity ship

Good morning. Here’s your cruise news for Wednesday, January 22 here in snowy Jacksonville, Florida.

Wow. One more cruise ship on order.

Royal Caribbean group has announced plans for a sixth Edge-class ship for Celebrity Cruises

Set to debut in 2028 now dubbed Edge Six or Excel 2, It’ll be the sister ship to the Celebrity Excel launching later this year. Being built by French shipyard Chantiers d’Atlantique the ship will incorporate methanol fuel capabilities The expansion is part of Royal Caribbean Group’s eight ship order including Star of the Seas and Celebrity Excel debuting this year.

The agreement is pending customary financing conditions.

Worker stabbed while building Princes Cruises ship

And an on-the-job dispute. A Bangladeshi worker was injured in a stabbing aboard the Star Princess cruise ship which is currently being built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. Now the incident occurred on deck four of the ship while regular operations were underway.

The victim, a 28-year-old plumber employed by a contractor was attacked with a 10 centimeter fruit knife by a 24 year old co-worker. The victim had to go to the hospital to receive stitches

He’s now recovering at home police arrested the alleged attacker on charges of aggravated assault.

Authorities believe the altercation may have stemmed from a personal dispute though Investigations are ongoing.

Fincantieri has since issued a statement condemning the incident.

Star Princess is in the final stage of construction and will debut later this year.
