New ships, power source coming to PortMiami

The 2025 season is filled with new cruise ships sailing from PortMiami. Among the lineup of ships are Cunard Queen Anne (January 2025), MSC World America (April 2025), Norwegian Aqua (April 2025), Cunard Queen Elizabeth (October 2025), Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady (October 2025), and Oceania Cruises Allura (November 2025).

Another historic milestone that recently took place was the June 17, 2024, launch of shore power.

Shore power allows cruise ships to turn off their engines and plug into landside electrical power while docked, resulting in reduced emissions and noise. A partnership between Miami-Dade County, Carnival Corporation  (CCL) , MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings  (NCLH) , Royal Caribbean Group  (RCL) , Virgin Voyages, and Florida Power & Light Co., PortMiami is the first major cruise port on the U.S. eastern seaboard that will offer shore power capability at five cruise berths.

PortMiami adding more parking

In addition, PortMiami and Norwegian Cruise line Holdings recently shared that the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has approved for Norwegian to assume responsibility for the operations and maintenance of the existing Cruise Terminal B Garage, as well as the development of a new Multipurpose Parking Facility at PortMiami.

“This pivotal milestone underscores the commitment and partnership between Miami-Dade County and NCLH to address its growing passenger volumes and existing and future parking needs at PortMiami,” according to port officials.

Norwegian has also committed to increase its guaranteed passenger movements at PortMiami from approximately 50 million to nearly 75 million passengers during the initial 30-year term of this agreement.

PortMiami welcomed 7,299,294 cruise vacationers in 2023, with plans to exceed that number going forward thanks, in part, to new state-of-the-art cruise terminals built with innovative funding by the cruise lines.
