The American Airlines  (AAL)  AAirPass launched in the 1980s but was discontinued in 1994 due to the high numbers of travelers who were milking it for all that it was worth. Undeterred, budget carrier Frontier Airlines  (FRON)  launched its own version of an unlimited flying pass in 2022.

While the GoWild! program has significantly more restrictions than the original all-you-can-fly programs, its popularity has led Frontier to continue offering and expanding it.

This is how to score the GoWild! pass at the promotional rate

The original GoWild! pass allows holders to pay a single fee — $599 when booking months early for the year ahead and rising to as much as $1,200 when purchased last-minute — and take what is in theory an unlimited number of flights on the 300 days outside the year’s most popular travel periods.

This month, Frontier began offering the annual pass beginning on May 1 and lasting until April 30, 2026 at a promotional rate of $599. Those who already had the pass in 2024 can renew it for $699 but both prices will start rising in the coming weeks.

The summer pass lasting from May 1 to September 30 can currently also be booked for $399; Frontier first started offering seasonal passes for customers who only need it during a specific period back in 2023.

“At a limited-time introductory price of just $399, GoWild! Summer Pass holders can pack their summer vacation with unlimited adventures — from a hike in the Rocky Mountains, to a beach excursion in the Caribbean, to a walk through history in New England, and so much more,” Jeff Werkheiser, Frontier’s senior director of brand and customer engagement, said in a statement.

Critics say Frontier Airlines GoWild isn’t as great as it sounds

The main limitation is that the flights are subject to availability and can only be secured during a “booking window” of the day before departure for domestic flights and 10 days prior for international ones; if seats get booked up, travelers can potentially be stuck somewhere while looking for other options.

While some flights can be secured outside the window if they have the GoWild! widget on the online booking page, there will be an additional fee for booking early.

Passengers also have to pay taxes and airport fees on every flight included in the promotion while another big criticism of the program is that in many cities Frontier does not fly out of the main airport close to the city’s downtown — in Los Angeles, GoPass travelers must fly out of John Wayne Airport or Ontario International Airport. Flights from LAX are not included in the program.

“This pass seems to be well-suited for remote workers who have flexible work schedules, or for people who like to travel and have the ability to work from different locations but if you’re someone who has to head into the office everyday or who can’t pack up and leave, it might not be the best choice for you,” Alyshia Hull wrote in a review for Business Insider.
