While traveling to new and exciting locales is an item on many people’s bucket lists, those of us who travel regularly know that the actual act of traveling can be a mixed bag when it comes to comfort.
First there’s getting to the airport, which is getting more expensive these days, whether you Uber or go for the old-fashioned cab route. Or you can take a shuttle, but it’s slow and takes a while to get you where you need to go.Â

Once you get to the airport, there’s check-in, long security lines, and finally arriving at your seat, which is an adequate size for a sardine unless you can afford business or first class. And let’s not forget the flight itself and navigating turbulence on the way to your destination.
When you think about all you have to go through to get to your destination, it’s no surprise that all travelers want are comforts, both large and small. And the best way to plan your travels and accommodate for that comfort is to be aware of what will happen along the way.

That said, those who travel frequently in the U.S. and spend time in major airport hubs may want to note this new change.

Hartsfield-Jackson is making a parking change
Named the busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport can be a handful to navigate, but travelers flying through hub cities are bound to pass through it eventually.
Now the airport has announced that for the first time in eight years, it’s time for parking rates to go up, said Tyronia Smith, the airport’s assistant general manager, at a Monday briefing.
The new rates will go into effect on May 1, Smith said.

“As long as you enter the garage prior to midnight on May 1, you’ll be under our existing parking rate structure,” she said during the briefing. “After midnight on May 1, you’ll be [under] the new parking rate structure and there will be signage that will be posted at the entrance of each of the gates and also online,” Smith said.
The new pricing varies depending on what deck you park, but some decks are now more than triple the cost. Here’s the full breakdown:
South/North Hourly: Will increase from $3 per hour, $36 max to $10 per hour, $50 max Day 1 and $75 daily afterInternational Hourly: Will increase from $3 per hour, $36 max to $10 for first hour, $15 per hour after, $70 max Day 1, $100 daily afterSouth/North Daily: Will increase from $3 per hour, $19 max to $30 dailySouth/North Economy: Will increase from $3 per hour, $14 max to $20 dailyATL West Deck: Will increase from $3 per hour, $16 max to $10 per hour, $30 max per dayATL SelectUncovered: Will increase from $3 per hour, $10 max to $15 daily flat rateCovered: Will increase from $3 per hour, $14 max to $20 daily flat rateOversized: Will increase from $3 per hour, $28 max to $40 daily flat rateDomestic Park Ride: Will increase from $3 per hour, $10 max to $15 daily flat rateInternational Park Ride: Will increase from $3 per hour, $14 max to $30 daily flat rate
The fee change is due to a need to increase capacity and handle a larger volume of travelers, according to officials.
“We think that competitive pricing won’t affect the capacity, we think our garages will still be full, and the demand is still there for additional capacity, which is why we’re still building the south deck phase 1 and other parking facilities as well,” Smith said in a statement given to Channel 2 Action News.
