Whether you’re a fan of Elon Musk’s projects or you’ve had enough of him mucking around with the U.S. government, there’s one indisputable fact about the man: he clearly has a desire for groundbreaking change.

You can see that in all the projects he chooses to heavily involve himself in, from Tesla’s full self-driving ambitions to Neuralink’s brain-computer interfaces to even his early involvement in OpenAI.

Yes, it’s true that Musk’s projects may not come to fruition on the exact timeline he promises they will. For instance, his debut of full self-driving is years behind when he said it would be, while Alphabet’s Waymo has been driving people around in driverless vehicles since 2018 and is now expanding to new cities.

That said, moving a timeline doesn’t mean the technology isn’t coming, just that it takes longer to perfect. And in the meantime, the richest man in the world is hard at work on things to enrich the customers of his brands.

Now, he’s on the verge of debuting something fun and new for Tesla  (TSLA)  customers — and it’s not a car.

Tesla’s Supercharged Drive-In will open soon

There’s a new diner in town if you live in Los Angeles, and it seems to be very close to opening its doors.

The diner is on 7001 West Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood, and one look at it tells you instantly that it’s a Tesla building. It’s topped with a two-tier circular construction that’s finished in black and chrome, giving off big Cybertruck vibes.

Celebrity Chef Eric Greenspan, James Beard Foundation nominee and owner of modern Jewish deli Fleishik’s in Los Angeles, has been tapped to lead the diner. But there’s more to it than just food.

Musk’s original vision for the nostalgia-inspired diner also included servers on roller skates, just like in the ’50s. It will boast a drive-in movie theater with two 45-foot LED screens and over 75 V4 Supercharger stalls. The Superchargers are now lit up, per a report from X user Zack, indicating that the drive-in could be very close to opening to the public.

This project was originally teased in 2018 and construction began in 2023. Job listings appeared in the wild in August 2024, also pointing in the direction of the diner being manned and ready to go very soon. And January’s Tesla app updates featured diner UI, so the picture is certainly adding up.

Tesla’s troubles

The diner is coming right on time to distract Tesla owners from a pile of less-than-thrilling news from the EV maker. Between plummeting sales, reports of production delays on its newest budget EV, and stock down 37% since the beginning of the year, CEO Elon Musk has a lot to answer for.

Wedbush Securities investor Dan Ives spoke up about Musk’s leadership at Tesla in a note on March 11, saying that Musk’s attention on DOGE and government matters is having a negative effect on Tesla’s health.

“The more Musk doubles down on DOGE and the Trump Administration…we have seen more protests erupt at Tesla dealers and violence against Tesla drivers in spots across the U.S. and Europe,” the report states. “The stock has been under massive pressure, down over 50% from its highs in December, and Tesla investors are seeing patience wear thin as Musk is not reading the room.”

Tesla will report its earnings today after market close.
