At the outset of 2026, Walmart launched Better Care Services, a one-stop digital destination designed to help empower millions of customers to take control of their health journeys with ease, transparency and confidence.
The program, which lives on Walmart.com, is designed to fill a gap in the American healthcare system. It allows customers to compare and access virtual, third-party healthcare services that accept specific insurance policies or offer cash-pay options. It also gives customers easier access to necessary prescriptions and prescription renewal.
“We know that when health care feels hard, many people don’t get the care they need. We can fix that,” Walmart Senior Vice President of Health, Wellness, and Pharmacy Kevin Host, said in a January 2026 statement.
“Better Care Services is about making wellness simple and affordable to fit into your life,” he continued, “we’re removing barriers so more people can get the care they deserve, right when they need it.”
Earlier this month, the retailer announced that it would be expanding the type of care Better Care Services provides to include weight management support and access to GLP-1s. Previously, the program had been focused on urgent care, mental health services, and prescription renewal.
Better Care Services now offers GLP-1 prescriptions
At the close of 2025, 1 in 18 American adults said they were currently taking a GLP-1 for weight loss, diabetes management, or another condition, according to a survey by health policy research firm KFF. Well over half of those taking the drugs (56%) said that it was difficult to afford them.
With Better Care Services expansion into the weight management space, GLP-1s will be easier to access and more affordable for the 12% of Americans currently taking them and for the millions more who are looking to take them.
“More than 40% of U.S. adults live with obesity, according to the CDC, and many patients exploring treatment options face a fragmented process — coordinating provider visits, prescription access, lifestyle changes and insurance considerations across multiple sources,” the Walmart announcement said.

“With a nationwide pharmacy footprint, Walmart provides access to a broad portfolio of GLP-1 medications with a prescription, including newly available oral options such as Foundayo™ (orforglipron), available through insurance or transparent cash-pay pricing,” the announcement continued.
“Customers benefit from competitive pricing and convenient fulfillment options, including same-day delivery in as fast as an hour in many locations, offering one of the fastest and most convenient ways to get medications.”

Walmart will also offer weight management support
Access to GLP-1 prescriptions isn’t the only weight loss support Walmart’s Better Care Services will be offering.
“Access to medication is only one part of the equation, weight management today is often difficult to navigate, with patients managing multiple steps across care, medication and lifestyle changes,” Host said in the recent announcement.
To that end the platform now includes offerings from five new weight management tools, including:
- Aaptiv: A personalized fitness app that provides GLP-1 companion programming, personalized insights delivered weekly, and 10,000+ expert-led fitness classes and nutrition articles to help get people moving and build a custom routine.
- Berry Street: An app that combines AI with a nationwide network of Registered Dietitians to deliver personalized, evidence-based nutrition therapy.
- Curai Health: An AI-supported, self-guided care experience designed to provide personalized coaching, cognitive-based support, virtual dietitian services and guidance on nutrition and fitness.
- MyCare by Twin Health: An app that provides real-time, personalized insights into how food, sleep and activity affect the body perfect for people using GLP-1s who want lasting weight loss, whether they plan to stay on medication or transition off.
- Wheel: A weight-management care program with board-certified providers trained in obesity management.

Walmart’s Better Care Services also connects customers to Nutrition Hub, a platform powered by Walmart Everyday Health Signals. This preexisting program connects users to individualized food and recipe choices that support better habits and are wallet-friendly.
“By bringing together pharmacist support, virtual care and nutrition resources, and leveraging the scale and convenience of our pharmacy network, we’re making it easier for customers to access care and support in a way that fits their lives,” Host said.
The weight-loss drug market is growing
The obesity drug space has experienced explosive growth over the last several years.
The global market is expected to hit $200 billion by 2030, according to analysis from J.P. Morgan Global Research, with some 25 million Americans expected to be taking the drugs.
One of the largest drivers behind that growth is lower costs and broader insurance coverage.
“Average monthly out-of-pocket costs have declined to about $120, down from $170 last year,” Morgan Stanley Head of U.S. Pharma and Biotech Terence Flynn said on a recent episode of “Thoughts on the Market.” “Now, at the same time, employer coverage for obesity treatments is expected to rise from just under 50 percent last year to around 65 percent by 2027.”
“This story doesn’t stop at healthcare,” Flynn continued. “We estimate GLP-1 adoption could reduce U.S. calorie consumption by about 1.6 percent by 2035. Now, that may sound modest, but at scale it has real implications, with ripple effects across consumer behavior and industries like food, retail, and healthcare services.”
For a company like Walmart, that rely on food sales, retail, and now healthcare services, getting in on the ground floor of this GLP-1 trend could be a make or break decision.
