Style trends come and go as often as heat waves. That means it’s a regular occurrence these days. However, there’s one watch trend that, although hitting new heights as of late, has never really gone away. That’s the salmon dial watch craze. Anything but a quick-passing fad, the popularity of watches with salmon or copper colored dials may ebb and flow, but never truly disappears. As luck would have it, we’re in one of the aforementioned flow moments, and that’s good for shoppers who love a good deal. You can currently find salmon dial watches in just about every style and from a lot of top brands and retailers. This particular piece from Amazon is currently at its lowest price in 90 days, or nearly $150 off, making it a great buy.
Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Navihawk
Citizen has entered the chat
As usual, Citizen has some amazing offerings in this category. One of my favorites is the Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Navihawk. It’s a sporty chronograph with a copper dial that adds a ton of dimension to the watch. The three black subdials offer the perfect contrast to the bright copper dial that surrounds them. The subregisters measure running seconds, minutes, and hours respectively, and they add to the casual sporty look of the watch. That casual vibe is offset by the classic copper color of the dial, which adds an elegance not often seen in a sports watch. The rotating black timing bezel that surrounds the dial matches the subdials perfectly and rounds out the entire look of the piece. Constructed of 316L stainless steel, the bracelet and 40 millimeter case are both rustproof and corrosion resistant.
Internally, the standard Eco-Drive movement keeps things ticking away at an incredibly accurate pace. The Eco-Drive is a quartz-regulated solar-powered movement that has been the brand’s flagship since its creation in the 1990s. One of the biggest advantages of an Eco-Drive piece like this one is that it should never need a battery change for the life of the watch. The small solar panels embedded underneath the dial constantly recharge the battery, eliminating the need for a new one.
What’s special about salmon or copper dial watches?
The dial of your watch is perhaps the biggest canvas for your self-expression when it comes to what you wear on your wrist. The color and design of your dial says a lot about your personal style and what you want your timepiece to say about you. Salmon dial watches are beloved for their neutral yet interesting color and their ability to match with almost any outfit. While not the most bold of dial colors, salmon or copper is elevated and gives any watch a sophisticated feel, regardless of the case design.
In addition to the personal expression element, salmon dials deliver a touch of vintage aesthetic to any watch. While they originated in the 1920s, the style truly took off in the 1940s and 1950s, primarily with high-end dress watches. They were a great way to add a pop of color to your wrist without being too bold or bright. Because of the incredible effect of light play off of this color, it added a bit of visual interest to the popular dress watches of the day, which could at times be a bit dull. That beautiful reflection off a salmon dial is still a big selling point for the style, and one that has translated nicely into modern sports watches.
Whether you’re more of a dress watch person or a sports watch convert, there’s definitely a salmon or copper dial watch out there for you. I’ve owned a few, personally, and they’re always a fun option to strap on my wrist. The color can be dressed up or dressed down, depending on your outfit, making it one of the most versatile dial colors you can buy. It offers the adaptability of a neutral black or white dial, but with a bit more panache.
