The world is so loud and fast-moving that it can feel almost impossible to get a quiet moment to yourself, even in your own home. That’s because so much of our lives are dominated by work, family, and not to mention our electronic devices. Taking into account the fact that there is so much to worry about, from inflation to world conflict, it’s important to find that quiet place where you can relax and recharge. For many people, the shower is the only place where they can be truly alone, unplugged from the outside world and undisturbed by external influences.

While this is certainly a healthy attitude to take toward stress management, it’s not always an easy task. That’s because, if you don’t have a good showerhead, then this time of the day can become just as frustrating as anything else. As such, it’s important that you shop for a showerhead that serves the two most important functions. The first of these is comfort and convenience. You’ll want a showerhead that helps you to feel comfortable and relaxed so you can get the most out of your time in the shower. Secondly, you’ll need to choose one that has an acceptable amount of water conservation, based on your personal preferences.

Another benefit that many modern showerheads offer is water filtration. They often push the water through a carbon filter that clears it of unwanted contaminants. Doing so can alleviate the risk of hard minerals and chlorine being a part of your showering routine. This in turn reduces your risk of skin conditions and excessive dryness. Not only does it help to avoid skin irritation, but it can also have a soothing effect on any skin issues you may be currently suffering from. That’s why it’s always a good idea to consider whether a filtered showerhead is right for you when browsing current offerings. Finding a balance between all of these factors shouldn’t be too difficult, provided you’re looking in the right places.

Our recommendation is to check out both Amazon and Walmart if you’re in the market for a new showerhead. Both retailers have lots of options at a number of different price points. Before choosing one, however, it’s important that you decide which of the two primary showerhead styles you want to buy. The first is the handheld style and the second is a fixed design.

Handheld showerheads

There are three primary benefits to a handheld shower head. They’re better for targeted cleaning than fixed models, they offer more versatile uses when it comes to pets and kids, and they make maintenance and cleaning of the shower itself far simpler. The most obvious of these is the first. It’s far easier to access every corner of your body with a handheld shower head than one that’s fixed. As someone who spends a lot of time at the beach, I can attest to the fact that my handheld shower head is so much more effective at removing sand from every area than the alternative. That easy access design is perhaps the biggest selling point for this style of shower head.

As for the versatility question, anyone who has bathed or showered a child or pet with a handheld shower head knows it’s quick and easy. Handheld heads with long hoses make these types of tasks exceedingly easy when compared with a fixed head that simply rains down on your subject. It also makes the entire experience less stressful for your little one, regardless of whether they’re a fur baby or otherwise.

One of the lesser considered practicalities of handheld shower heads is that they give you the ability to keep your shower or tub clean with minimal effort. They allow you to spray the entire area with water and it takes very little effort. This might be my personal favorite aspect of my own handheld shower head. I’m able to keep my shower area neat and clean in a way that was far more difficult back when I had a fixed model shower head.

Fixed shower heads

Fixed heads, for their part, also have some upside. They tend to be more affordable, and have improved longevity, and fewer needs when it comes to maintenance or repairs. On the pricing front, it’s true that you can find handheld options on sale, but overall fixed shower heads are cheaper to produce, which means retailers can afford to charge less. It’s hard to argue with saving a few dollars as a big benefit.

Secondly, fixed shower heads often have a longer lifespan than handheld models of equal value. That’s because they involve more simple manufacturing processes and fewer moving parts. Less moving parts also leads to less likelihood of something breaking or malfunctioning internally. That’s why fixed shower heads are the safer bet if you want to have something that will last for a long time and require very little care on your part. On a side note, fixed heads also have a sleeker more modern look than most handheld options, which is a positive for many people who like to match their fixture decor to the rest of the bathroom.
