While many associate South America and travel to the continent with Brazil, the most-visited country on the continent is actually Colombia.
Recognized as one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, Colombia attracts travelers with natural wonders like the color-changing Caño Cristales river and the Andes landscapes of the Cocora Valley as well as its modern cities and a history of music and dance that gave birth to global superstars like Shakira.
The 6.4 million international tourists who came to Colombia in 2025 are a 11% spike from the previous year. The country’s tourism ministry projects that number to surpass seven million by the end of 2026.
Frontier Airlines to launch new flights to Bogotá, Colombia, and Medellín in Colombia
Prior to its collapse after two bankruptcies at the start of May, budget airline Spirit Airlines poured significant resources into building out its network of Colombia flights from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando: both to major hubs in Bogotá and Cartagena as well as smaller cities such as Barranquilla, Cali and Bucaramanga.
With that gap now left for others to fill, Denver-based Frontier Airlines just announced the launch of three routes to Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena that it is preparing to launch in December 2026.

All three flights will depart from Orlando International Airport (MCO). They will leave daily from Dec. 10 and 14 for the first two routes, and once a week from Dec. 17 for the flight to Rafael Núñez International Airport in Cartagena (CTG). Frontier runs a fleet primarily of Airbus A320 and A321 planes with up to 240 seats for the latter.
To promote the new routes, Frontier is offering introductory fares for early committers starting at $90 in one direction for the flight to Bogotá and a respective $129 and $169 for the flights to Cartagena and Medellín. Flights for all three flights can be booked as of September 10.

“This is an exciting day for Frontier and for travelers as we announce our first-ever service to South America,” Tyri Squyres, Frontier’s vice president of public and consumer affairs, said in a statement. “We believe there is strong, unmet demand for low-cost travel between Orlando and Colombia, and we look forward to offering affordable flight options between these two magnificent destinations.”
All three routes were previously flown by Spirit but were axed in September 2026. Frontier leadership had previously signaled that it may further expand into the country in the coming years should uptake on the first routes bring in the necessary traffic.

When they were flown by Spirit, the routes also attracted members of the Colombian diaspora traveling back and forth between the U.S.
Lance Lyttle, who heads the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, also classified the new routes as an expansion that “gives travelers more choice, strengthens our connectivity with Colombia, and reflects the strong demand for affordable international travel between Central Florida and South America.”
