Happy Wednesday. Stock futures were mixed as investors reviewed the latest developments between the U.S. and Iran, while President Donald Trump prepares to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping to Washington.
Trump said Tuesday that U.S. and Iranian officials met for three hours during the annual United Nations General Assembly gathering in New York, CNBC reported. He described it as a “very good meeting.”
Earlier Tuesday in his address to the U.N., Trump said he has a “big decision” over whether to reach a deal with Tehran or “annihilate” the country.
Trump is expected to greet Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews, kicking off the Chinese leader’s first U.S. state visit in 11 years.
Cintas Corporation (CTAS), General Mills (GIS) and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (CBRL) are scheduled to report quarterly results.
Stocks finished mixed Tuesday as oil prices fell and technology stocks surged. Reuters reported that the Nasdaq reached an intraday record as investors focused on easing energy concerns and the prospect of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
“Falling oil prices provide some much-needed relief from the inflation and rates concerns that have dominated September,” said Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst with Capital.com. “Brent has extended its decline for a sixth consecutive session, trading around $98-$99 a barrel after closing below $100 for the first time since early September.”
“That has helped stabilize bond markets, with the U.S. 10-year yield back below 5%, while equities have generally moved higher across Asia and Europe.”
