DC Comics fans and collectors looking forward to adding premium editions of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman to their collections next year may have to wait longer than expected.
The comic book publisher has reportedly canceled retailer orders for four upcoming deluxe hardcover collections from its popular Absolute Universe series, according to an October 20 report from Bleeding Cool.
The books were originally scheduled for release between April and June 2027.
According to Bleeding Cool, comic book distributor Lunar Distribution has withdrawn the four hardcover titles and canceled existing orders placed by comic book stores.
However, the books remain available for preorder through some major retailers, including Target, with later release dates.
DC has not publicly explained the cancellations or confirmed a revised release schedule.

The affected books, previously advertised in DC’s publisher-issued solicitation catalogs, include:
- Absolute Batman: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1: Originally scheduled for April 27, 2027.
- Absolute Batman: The Covers: Originally scheduled for April 27, 2027.
- Absolute Wonder Woman: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1: Originally scheduled for May 25, 2027.
- Absolute Superman: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1: Originally scheduled for June 29, 2027.
Now both Batman collections have release dates of August 24, 2027, while the Wonder Woman edition has shifted to August 31.
The status of Absolute Superman: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 remains unclear.

Although Bleeding Cool reported that the hardcover’s Amazon listing had disappeared, the book remains listed at specialty retailers, including Panel Bound Comics, which displays its originally scheduled June 29, 2027 release date.
This date was also listed by Absolute Superman writer Jason Aaron in his August newsletter.
However, comic book tracking site League of Comic Geeks now shows an October 12, 2027 release date, suggesting the Superman collection could face a longer delay than the Batman and Wonder Woman editions.
DC has not publicly confirmed the revised publication date or explained the reported cancellation of comic-shop orders.
Target currently lists Absolute Batman: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 for preorder at $49.99, with a suggested retail price of $59.99 and an August 24, 2027 release date.
The retailer’s Absolute Wonder Woman deluxe listing also shows a $59.99 suggested retail price, although customers can preorder it for $49.99.
The deluxe editions were originally advertised at $49.99, raising questions about whether their official prices are increasing.
DC has not publicly confirmed a price increase.
The order cancellations have also created confusion among collectors.
In a Reddit discussion, one customer shared a cancellation notice for an Absolute Batman preorder placed through Discount Comic Book Service.
Another collector reported that Cheap Graphic Novels requested an additional $6 to retain an existing preorder rather than canceling it.
These experiences suggest customers may be encountering different outcomes depending on where they ordered.

DC Comics continues expanding its Absolute Universe
The reported cancellations come despite strong demand for DC’s Absolute Universe, a publishing initiative launched in October 2024 that reimagines familiar superheroes in alternate realities.
In a February 2026 announcement, DC said the series was a commercial success, with early collections returning to print amid growing readership.
The publisher also expanded the lineup with Absolute Catwoman and Absolute Green Arrow.
More recently, DC announced Absolute Justice, a five-issue limited series bringing together Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and other Absolute Universe superheroes.
The company said the upcoming project would not interrupt its ongoing Absolute comic book series.
DC also offered exclusive hardcover editions of its first Absolute Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman volumes during New York Comic Con earlier this month. Those are separate from the affected deluxe collections.
The publishing changes come shortly after DC became part of Skydance Corporation following Paramount’s October 6 acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
For now, collectors will have to await further clarification from DC on when the deluxe hardcovers will become available.
