The Mandalorian is now nearly two years old and in that time it’s become a massive hit for Disney Plus. It has even been nominated twice for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. We have followed the adventures of the title character, a bounty hunter with a distinctive suit of armor who suddenly becomes the protector of Grogu, a Force-enabled creature better known by fans as “Baby Yoda”. With two seasons now complete, you might be wondering when is Mandalorian season 3 going to drop. Good question. Here’s everything we know about The Mandalorian season 3 so far.

When is The Mandalorian season 3 going to launch?
Disney has announced that The Mandalorian season 3 will debut on March 1, 2023. On March 29, 2022, actor and director Carl Weathers seemed to confirm on his Twitter feed that season 3’s production had concluded. The show is delayed by a bit as the previous release window was expected to be in February 2023. Nevertheless, the March release date is now confirmed, and Disney Plus won’t change it in all likelihood.
Who will be in the third season?
Warning: Spoilers for the show ahead. Keep reading only if you’re already caught up and finished with season 2!
Pedro Pascal, who has played the title character in the first two seasons of the show, is currently working as the lead character in HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of The Last of Us video game. It’s possible that The Mandalorian will be played by another person wearing the suit in the next season, and Pascal will simply do the voice of the character. In the first two seasons, he took off his helmet to show us his face just three times. It’s likely that will continue to be the case for the third season, with Pascal only showing himself sans helmet very rarely.
What about The Mandalorian’s companion Grogu? At the end of the second season, we see him leave his friend and protector to join none other than Luke Skywalker to learn to use his Force powers. It’s hard to believe we won’t ever see “Baby Yoda” again, so we expect him to be a part of season 3 as well.
We also expect recurring characters like bounty hunter guild chief Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and the evil Imperial Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) to make appearances in the third season as well. One character who won’t be back is mercenary Cara Dune. Disney and Lucasfilm were unhappy with certain controversial Twitter messages from the character’s portrayer, actor Gina Carano, and publically announced she would not be returning.
What will The Mandalorian season 3 be all about?
Disney Plus released the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 in September 2022. The footage shows what’s next for Mando and Grogu’s future, where the former takes on a more fatherly role towards the little green kid.
Besides the trailer, we got some clues from the recent Disney Plus spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett. Temuera Morrison plays the role of Boba Fett, a bounty hunter who also wears Mandalorian armor, and Ming-Na Wen plays his partner Fennec Shand.
Both appeared in the second season of The Mandalorian. In the season’s final episode’s post-credits scene, we see Boba assassinate Jabba The Hutt’s former lieutenant Bib Fortuna inside Jabba’s palace on Tattoine. The series has shown how Boba Fett has tried to take over Jabba’s organization.
Based on storylines in this series, which we won’t spoil here, this show is essential for fans of The Mandalorian. You should really watch the series right now.
That’s all we know so far about The Mandalorian season 3. We will update this post when more information is revealed.
