While there are Disney parks in both Tokyo and Shanghai, Disney cruises are still primarily a North American experience as the vast majority leave from places like Fort Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, New Orleans or even Galveston in Texas.

One of the most popular and beloved ship itineraries is on the Disney Fantasy, which departs from Fort Canaveral and goes on a seven-day Caribbean journey making stops in the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica.

Disney fans in Asia will soon get a new cruise itinerary of their own to take as the first Disney Adventure prepares to set sail from Singapore in December 2025.

The new cruise ship is equipped to carry 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members and will do mostly four- and five-day sailings from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in downtown Singapore.

“Sailing on primarily three- and four-night voyages designed with only dedicated days at sea, the ship will include something for everyone,” Disney Cruise Line’s VP and Regional General Manager Sarah Fox said in a statement on the new line. “From fun and interactive spaces for kids, to relaxing venues for adults to unwind, to entertaining and engaging places for families to enjoy together, guests will find endless adventures from bow to stern.”

The sailing marks the start of Disney Cruise Line’s expansion into Asia after it purchased the partially-completed Global Dream cruise ship from failing holdings company Genting Hong Kong in November 2022. It is currently also building a ship that will set sail from the country in partnership with Japan’s Oriental Land Company but the exact details of what the ship will look like and where it will go are still too far off to be announced.

Disney Adventure, meanwhile, will be divided into seven themed Disney areas such as Disney Imagination Garden (a dining and shopping area made to look like an enchanted forest), Disney Discovery Reef (a smaller bar and cafe area with underwater themes), San Fransokyo Street (a combination of Asian and Western “Main Street” that some Asia-based parks have) and the Disney franchise’s standard Town Square.

The ship will include a water theme park area, stage shows featuring characters from “Coco” and “Wall-E” and three all-new rides not available at any other Disney cruises or parks — one of these is the Ironcyle Test Run, which the company claims is the longest existing roller coaster at sea.

The ship is currently undergoing the final stages of construction at the MV Werften shipyard in Germany’s Wismar (the same company also built Disney’s Dream, Fantasy and Wish ships) while bookings for sailings will open on Dec. 31, 2024.

“We are committed to delivering exceptional experiences that bring our special brand of cruising and the best of Disney storytelling to new guests on new shores,” Disney Cruise Line’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Sharon Siskie said in a statement. “When the Disney Adventure sets sail in December 2025, guests throughout Southeast Asia will have the opportunity to experience the magic of their favorite Disney, Pixar, and Marvel stories, in their very own backyard.”
