If you’re an avid online shopper, chances are you mark your calendars for some of the biggest savings events of the year.
Promotional days typically correspond to holidays and days off, when more shoppers tend to have time off from work and have the brain space and free time to make larger purchases.

Some of those days include Black Friday sales events, typically following Thanksgiving (though these days Black Friday events can last for weeks or right up until Christmas), Cyber Monday, Presidents’ Day, and the week around the Fourth of July.
Some individual retailers have even carved out parts of the year that shoppers look forward to specifically. Nordstrom (JWN) famously hosts its summertime Anniversary Sale each year, while Target (TGT) hosts Circle Week in the springtime.
But the one shoppers look forward to most tends to be Amazon (AMZN) Prime Day, which runs typically for two days in early July.
Amazon makes Prime Day announcement
Prime Day is popular for a multitude of reasons, but perhaps the biggest one is because so much goes on sale. Each year Amazon places more items on sale — often including prominent brand names like Bissell and Apple and premium beauty products— at deep discounts.
Amazon likes to set up teasers and reminders months ahead of the big event. So in late April, the online retailer said it would be hosting its hallmark 2024 Prime Days once again this July, marking the 10th annual event.
Amazon has not officially announced when Prime Day 2024 will take place, mentioning only that it would happen in July, though analysts are predicting it will likely go from July 9-10.
“We’ll share more details soon as we get closer to the event!” Amazon wrote in an announcement.
Big deals coming your way! ➡ This July, we’re bringing back Prime Day! 🎉 Prime members, stay tuned for exclusive deals (they’re sure to give you all the feels! 😍). https://t.co/HPR5lv0iCC pic.twitter.com/se1ZFBadsl

Prime Days are a big deal
Last year marked Amazon’s most successful Prime Day effort on record. The sales event, taking place July 11-12, 2023, brought in a record $12.7 billion in sales.
“The first day of Prime Day was the single largest sales day ever on Amazon,” Amazon wrote when the event closed, adding, “Prime Day 2023 was also the biggest Prime Day event ever for independent sellers, whose sales growth in Amazon’s store outpaced Amazon’s retail business.”
Amazon has not yet specified what might go on sale, but many shoppers and analysts expect deep discounts on some of the following:

Other retailers, including Best Buy (BBY) , Target, and Walmart (WMT) , are also expected to host rival sales events around the same time in an effort to capture shopper enthusiasm.
In 2023, Walmart and Target hosted their own iterations of Prime Day in July, called Circle Week and Walmart+ Week respectively. Both events ran for about a week (days longer than Prime Day), though surveys suggest few consumers really prefer one promotional event over another, seeking the best discounts.
