If you’re anything like me, you might be postponing installing an air conditioner for as long as possible. My old window air conditioner reached the end of its lifespan, and I’m contemplating switching over to a portable AC unit. In the meantime, it’s mid-June, and there have been multiple heat waves that have hit the northeast. I’ve managed to survive all of them with a tower fan; however, if I were to make an upgrade, it would be to invest in one with more smart features.
Why you need a smart tower fan this summer
A smart tower fan is like a traditional tower fan, but even better. It has the same space-saving, compact design, but it’s equipped with smart features, mainly through the addition of voice and app controls. These smart additions make a tower fan even more convenient, giving you the ability to manage the cooling functions without having to touch the fan. Even though these fans typically also come with a remote control that you can use from a distance, app controls give you the option to power up the fan and adjust the settings without being in the room or even in the house. The voice control features are often available through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. They’re useful when you don’t have your phone on you and you’re not in the same room as the fan, so you can verbally turn it on if, for example, you wanted to circulate the air in the room to cool it down before you even step foot in there.
Another smart perk of an upgraded tower fan is an automated feature that reads the temperature of the room and adjusts the settings accordingly. The energy-saving mode can help keep a room cool and comfortable, as well as potentially save you money on your electricity bill. By automatically adjusting the settings in accordance with the room temperature, a drop in fan speeds rather than keeping a fan on full blast all day can use up less energy. It’s also a fantastic feature to use along with an air conditioner. While an AC unit lowers the temperature of a room, a tower fan can help disperse the cool air throughout the space.
Dreo Smart Tower Fan
Amazon’s Dreo Smart Tower Fan is an excellent option. For under $100, it offers smart features that can help keep you cool during the warmer months. At 36 inches tall, it’s compact with 90-degree oscillation. There are four modes — Normal, Natural, Sleep, and Auto — and four speeds to choose from. It’s also quiet enough to use while you sleep without interruption, with noise levels as low as 28 decibels.
In addition to having a remote control, you can control the fan with the Dreo app or with voice controls. Through the app, you can manage settings like air temperature, speed settings, and modes, all without having to touch the fan or remote. It’s also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant if you want to integrate it into a larger smart home system and control the fan with voice commands.
Is a smart tower fan worth buying?
Smart tower fans can help keep you cool with a compact design that won’t take up much space. The smart features — like voice and app controls and auto modes — are added bonuses that make them more convenient than traditional tower fans. Not to mention, the auto modes can be more energy efficient, potentially saving you a little money on your electricity bill. The added features may make them more expensive than non-smart options, but overall, the convenience is worth the price.
