While a bus tour can be an inexpensive and convenient way for some travelers to explore many nearby parts of the world, tour companies that organize and sell such travel have increasingly been falling upon challenging times.
A longtime Virginia household name in the travel industry selling tours across the U.S. and Canada, bus travel company Sunshine Tours recently named the “rising cost of fuel, lodging, and overall tour expenses, along with the decline in passenger counts” as the reason to wind down operations after nearly 45 years in business.
In the United Kingdom, Birmingham-based TS Travels Group also wound down operations in August 2026 after debts of over £250,000 (roughly $336,200 USD) to various vendors forced it to enter insolvency proceedings. First registered in 2015, the travel company sold bus tours across West Yorkshire to tourists, school groups and private corporate groups.
Immaculate Travel ordered to shut down under insolvency act, all trips off
The latest bus company to join this unfortunate list is London-based Immaculate Travel. Incorporated in June 2019, the holiday bus travel firm sold what it presented as “expertly arranged tours” and “stress-free transportation” by bus to British tourist destinations such as Stonehenge and Bath as well as European capitals like Amsterdam, Paris and Rome.

Under the Insolvency Act of 1986, the British High Court has ordered for Immaculate Travel to be wound up and liquidated following a petition from business loans firm Bizcap Limited. The administration process is the closest equivalent to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the U.S. (in the UK, the term “bankruptcy” refers exclusively to individual, rather than corporate, insolvency proceedings).
The Companies House, the British government agency in charge of incorporating and dissolving corporations, now states the tour operator’s status as “in liquidation” while Immaculate Travel itself could not be reached for comment on the situation.

Under such an order, any trips scheduled for the future are automatically canceled as the company is legally bound to start liquidating its assets.

“When a company goes into administration, they have entered a legal process (under the Insolvency Act 1986) with the aim of achieving one of the statutory objectives of an administration,” the Companies House states in a general statement on the administration process. “This may be to rescue a viable business that is insolvent due to cashflow problems.”
Travel agencies that filed for bankruptcy in 2026:
- AVG Travels: The Melbourne-based travel agency selling cheap vacation packages to travelers in Australia and New Zealand sent more than 200 travelers an email saying that the trips were canceled before entering bankruptcy in May 2026.
- GoPlay Sports: In April 2026, the men’s basketball team of the University of Dallas was left without a planned trip to compete in the United Kingdom after Boston-based GoPlay Sports Tours LLC accepted two payments of $30,000 and then went unreachable.
- Havantur: Havantur was forced to shut down its main European office in France at the start of 2026 after tourist numbers to the Caribbean country plummeted due to U.S. military actions in Venezuela and threats against the country.
- Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations: Two travel agencies in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations, were shut down by regulators within a few days of each other in January 2026 after multiple travelers complained of buying trips with invalid plane tickets and hotel bookings.
