Cruise passengers, at least some of them, have made breaking certain rules a sort of tradition. Some of those choices can be dangerous.

Sneaking candles onboard or bringing an illicit item like an iron or a teapot can literally put other passengers at risk. You may find a way to get an illegal power strip with a surge protector in your room, but the fire that might cause is certainly not worth the risk.

Carnival Cruise Line has recently cracked down on various illegal substances. It’s using drug-sniffing dogs on shore and on some ships in order to catch people who bring canabbis onboard. Being caught with illegal drugs will get you thrown off and maybe even banned for life.

The cruise line has also recently begun cracking on another area where people have traditionally broken the rules, and the cruise line is showing very little tolerance.

Carnival cracks down on sneaky passengers

Transcript:

From MSC Cruises Private Island, Ocean Key, this is cruise news today with Doug Parker on location.

Good morning. Here’s your cruise news for Friday, April 11.

We will ban you.

Carnival Cruise Line is warning guests not to smuggle alcohol on board.

Brand Ambassador John Heald says that the company is aware of common tricks, including disguised containers, and has stepped up enforcement. Those caught could face a permanent ban from Carnival Cruise Line.

Heald spoke of a recent case where guests posted their smuggling attempts on social media, making it even easier for Carnival to catch them.

While guests can bring one sealed 750 milliliter bottle of wine or champagne at embarkation, all other alcohol is prohibited and will be confiscated. Carnival requests that guests follow the rules or risk losing their cruising privilege.

Princess Cruises shares new ship news; Disney plans drydock

And Princess Cruises has shared new construction photos of its upcoming ship, Star Princess, now being built at Fincantieri Shipyard in Italy. Set to debut this fall, the LNG-powered ship is the second in the Sphere class. It comes in at 178,000 gross registered tons.

The ship will sail two cruises from Barcelona before crossing the Atlantic to Port Everglades. From there, Star Princess begins Caribbean itineraries and then starts sailing Alaska next summer.

And Disney Cruise Line has announced a dry dock for the Disney Fantasy happening this fall.

The ship will be out of service from late September until early November, following its European season. Updates will mirror recent renovations on the Disney Dream, including a new poolside Ramones Cantina, enhancements to Senses Spa, and a Sorcerer Mickey-themed tower suite. Also added a Hercules-inspired concierge lounge and a revamped teen area.

And the photo of the week comes from Nida of Norwegian Aqua arriving in New York City on a rainy morning here. Thank you so much for sending this in. You can send yours in [email protected]. All photos are subject to broadcast.
