Lunch options are abundant on Carnival Cruise Line ships.

Every day, passengers can enjoy a variety of dishes at the lunch buffet or choose from casual dining venues serving deli sandwiches, tacos, pizza, burgers, and more.

With so many choices, you might not expect about half of the ship to fill their plates with the same cruise ship lunch items, but a recent passenger poll says differently.

While enjoying lunch on the Carnival Magic, Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador John Heald asked fans to vote for their favorite Carnival cruise lunch choice in a poll on his popular Facebook page.

“If you could only choose one item for lunch here on the Carnival Magic, which item would you choose on this lovely sea day?” Heald asked.

Carnival passengers are big fans of Guy’s Burger Joint

Nearly half of all the votes in the poll went to burgers from Guy’s Burger Joint, a poolside spot for roadside-style burgers and hand-cut fries created in partnership with Food Network personality and restaurateur Guy Fieri. More than 15,500 people who sail on Carnival cruise ships indicated that one of Guy’s burgers is their cruise lunch of choice.

Some passengers who love Guy’s Burger Joint noted in the comments on the poll that they can’t eat a burger every day of their cruise, though, so they’re glad to have other options too.

“I really look forward to a Guy’s burger every cruise, but I can’t eat that much every day,” explained Si Sarton. “Love the other choices as well, so no shade.”

About 5,000 people voted for Mongolian Wok, Carnival’s Asian stir fry option, while about 4,300 voted for tacos or a burrito from BlueIguana Cantina, Carnival’s Mexican lunch venue.

In the comments on the poll, some passengers asked Carnival to bring back taco shell bowls for their BlueIguana lunches.

“Please bring back the taco bowls at the Blue Iguana,” passenger Melissa Kuziej Winder wrote in a comment that received 55 likes.

“I agree! They were great,” wrote Deborah Wright. “Since they have taken them away I haven’t gone to the Blue Iguana much.”

After BlueIguana tacos and burritos, about 3,000 people voted for sandwiches from Carnival’s deli. About 2,500 other passengers said they’d choose from the daily selection of items from the cruise ship lunch buffet and salad bar.

Pizza isn’t so popular on Carnival cruise ships

Surprisingly, pizza is not a very popular lunch option among Carnival cruise ship passengers. Pizza only received about 1,000 votes in the lunch poll. In the comments, some passengers wanted to point out that they’d choose Italian food and pasta, if available, though.

“None of the above – I’d get pasta from the Italian restaurant,” wrote Christine Albanese.

“The pasta bar at the Italian place if it’s available,” agreed Barbara Wood Martin.

Rounding out the bottom of the lunch poll results were chicken wings from BlueIguana, a hot dog and fries, a vegan burger, and room service. Additionally, about 800 people indicated that they wouldn’t really eat any of the lunch options because they would have already eaten brunch.

Some Carnival cruise fans noted that they didn’t know BlueIguana served chicken wings and that they’d like to try that new lunch option during their next cruise.

For many passengers, having so many lunch options to choose from is one of the great things about cruising. Cruise ships make it easy to follow your mood and choose a different lunch every day of your vacation.

“So many good choices. First choice would be the Mongolian Wok, followed by Guys Burger,” Mabel Cartwright commented. “I try to have something different every day for lunch.”
