I always hear about WordPress being shit, and I sometimes wonder how true this is in the eyes of software engineers.
I build pretty large WP integration plugins for clients. Example might be an O365 Integration that uses the Azure API for displaying calendars for a company intranet site, compiling calendar data into PDFs on the fly, etc.
I build on SOLID principles and write to custom DB tables, and I really do impress myself.
That being said I wanted to ask — do you think I consider myself a good programmer because I’m doing amateur things and I just don’t know how big or complex real-world PHP applications are? In other words, I simply don’t realize how much I don’t know, so I’m a cocky WordPress programmer?
I just feel like I sometimes have this imposter syndrome because I work with WordPress, and maybe I’m a legit imposter?
The truth is I don’t dive too much into Synfony and Laravel because the WordPress world pays me really damn well, and advanced WP is really a niche where it’s really easy for me to pick up jobs.
Very curious on your feedback!
