Perfect Day at CocoCay has become the model for cruise line private islands
Whereas a private island used to basically be a beach with a bar and a lunch shack, CocoCay offers much more. There’s an added-fee water park, Beach Club, and an adults-only area.

That does not mean, however, that the island lacks free choices, There are multiple beaches to choose from including a secluded lagoon that’s perfect for children.
Kids also get a pirate ship to play on and a sort of mini water park and none of that costs extra.
Adults may not be able to slide down the free slides, but the options have increased since Royal Caribbean turned the island into Perfect Day in 2019.
Come Cruise With Me Executive Editor Dan Kline and his travel agent partner Dennis Post took a look at all the free dining locations on CocoCay from Captain Jack’s, a bar that sells wings on CocoCay.
The “Chill” pool at CocoCay is huge and does not cost extra.

Dan Kline: Hello, cruisers. I am Dan Kline, executive editor of Come Cruise With Me. That is comecruisewith.com or comecruisewith.me. I am sitting here at the beautiful, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
We’re at Captain Jack’s. Captain Jack’s is sort of the gateway to CocoCay, I think it’s fair to say. You come in, there’s live music, a guitar player. There’s a little bit of a pirate routine sometimes for the kids.
They sell wings here and fries that are good. They weren’t great today, to be honest. They were a little skimpy but usually pretty good.
And, I’m here with Dennis Post. Dennis is the co-owner of Postcard Travel Planning, our travel agent partner.
And we’re going to talk a little bit today about the free options for dining at CocoCay.
Dennis, the main option is the buffet, the Chill Grill. What do they serve there? What’s it like?
Dennis Post: Chill Grill is, so they serve a variety of foods, but they start out with hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and rice.
They have a full salad bar. They have tacos. They have some enchilada stuff, lots of fruits, bread, snacks, great desserts, and a variety of soft drinks to get there: water, lemonade, iced tea.
Kline: I think Dennis is missing out on the best thing here.
He just quickly said tacos, but it’s not just tacos. It’s really fresh grilled chicken cut up, steak, and pulled pork that I think is better than anything on the ships, even the ships that have Sabor, which is the extra-fee Mexican restaurant. That one’s going away on most ships, but I think it’s really a sort of unsung hero.
The other thing you have here at CocoCay is you have the Snack Shack.
Now, the Snack Shack has a pretty basic menu. There’s mozzarella sticks, there’s funnel cakes. There’s burgers. There’s a chicken sandwich.
And then Dennis, there’s a secret sandwich. Do you know what’s on the secret sandwich?

Post: No.
Kline: The secret sandwich is a bun, a fried piece of chicken, and the topping is mozzarella sticks. This is not a well-kept secret. Everyone knows this secret. So those are the places you can eat for free at CocoCay.
We hope you join us here soon. He is Dennis Post. I am Dan Kline.
