- Google has launched a Linux terminal preview for Googlebook.
- The terminal supports tools such as Python, Node.js, Git, and SSH, while its virtual machine helps protect the main operating system and private files.
- Google plans to add Linux GUI apps, USB debugging, dynamic memory and storage scaling, GPU/NPU acceleration, and better support for long-running tasks.
Google has announced a new Linux terminal for Googlebook, giving users access to a virtual Linux environment for development, scripting, and AI workflows. The terminal is now available in preview and is designed to make it easier for interested users to build apps and automate tasks, even if they don’t have a programming background.
According to Google, the Linux terminal runs inside an isolated virtual machine to help protect Googlebook OS from potentially harmful commands. Users can grant AI tools, including Google’s Antigravity, administrator privileges inside this environment without giving them unrestricted access to their machines. Folders are only shared with the Linux virtual machine after users grant permission, and a one-click reset lets them start fresh without deleting files stored on the main system.
