Since a federal judge blocked its efforts to acquire low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines  (SAVE)  a year ago, JetBlue Airways  (JBLU)  has had to rework its plans to grow.

So far, that strategy has entailed trimming unprofitable routes and launching as many new flights to cities with traffic potential as possible. In some cases, this meant more routes between major cities in the U.S., but JetBlue also recently started flying more to smaller European cities, such as Edinburgh.

Halifax, Honduras on JetBlue’s radar for spring ’25

The airline first started running a seasonal flight between JFK and Edinburgh Airport (EDI) in Scotland in spring 2024, and in May 2025 it will add a flight to the city from Boston Logan (BOS). That route, along with another new flight between Boston and Madrid, was announced last December.

On Jan. 15 the airline published an expanded network schedule, which includes two new destinations coming in May: Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the San Pedro Sula resort town in Honduras.

The Halifax route will run once a day seasonally from Boston Logan beginning June 25. San Pedro Sula, a permanent addition to the schedule, will take its inaugural flight June 12.

Other new flights out of Boston include a three-times-a-week flight to Traverse City, Mich., launching on June 5 and a daily seasonal flight to Islip on New York’s Long Island debuting on April 30.

JetBlue: ‘Focus on growing Boston leisure nework’

“We continue to focus on growing our leisure network in Boston by introducing more incredible new summer seasonal markets,” JetBlue’s head of revenue, network and enterprise planning, Daniel Shurz, said in a statement.

“We know customers across New England love taking advantage of JetBlue’s great service and competitive fares for their summer vacations, and we think each of these will be extremely popular for our loyal customers in the region.”

Out of New York’s JFK, JetBlue is upping frequencies to cities such as Los Angeles, Detroit, and Providence, R.I., come April, while also bringing back a flight between Newark Liberty (EWR) and Las Américas International (SDW) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

While beginning in the late spring and missing the immediate sun-seeking season currently underway, these new routes tap into a rapidly growing tourist interest in more and different Caribbean destinations.

In a similar spate of new routes announced all at once, Delta Air Lines  (DAL)  recently outlined plans to fly to places like St. Maarten, Aruba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from several Midwestern cities. (Those cold winters make residents there particularly interested in warm getaways.)

JetBlue, meanwhile, is eyeing several countries in Central America.

“Additionally … JetBlue will expand its presence in Guatemala City with a new daily flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida,” the airline writes. “This route will complement the airline’s existing service between Guatemala City and New York’s JFK, providing customers with even more travel options.”
