It was the meal of choice after a long day at school, the cheap dish that got us through the rough college years as broke students, and a post-night-out staple that could cure any hangover after a co-worker’s happy hour that went on one round too long.

Kraft wants to be the comfort meal of choice for all Americans and has done so by adapting to all of our needs and food preferences.
Whether it’s the stovetop or microwavable version, the original cheddar or the three-cheese flavor, or even the gluten-free, vegan, or whole grain alternatives, there’s a kind for anyone to enjoy.
Although we all know this product isn’t the healthiest, Kraft has claimed on its packaging that its mac and cheese doesn’t contain any artificial flavors, preservatives, or dyes. However, its claims have recently been challenged.

Kraft Mac & Cheese gets sued by consumers
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Mary Rowland said Kraft Heinz (KHC), the company that makes the iconic Kraft Mac & Cheese, is facing a class action lawsuit by Illinois, California, and New York consumers for allegedly containing a synthetic form of citric acid and sodium phosphates.
The plaintiffs support their claims with U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidance and seek damages for fraud, unjust enrichment, and state consumer protection law violations.

This lawsuit could almost be seen as a betrayal of a brand that has proven its loyalty to its consumers for years.
The lawsuit may also soon be dismissed. The judge said that the plaintiffs don’t face any risk or harm from the Kraft Mac & Cheese maker as they are now aware of its alleged deceptive practices.
Kraft Heinz responds to allegations with a firm message
Kraft Heinz is seeking a dismissal of the lawsuit as it states that the accusers have no factual allegations that it uses artificial ingredients or preservatives, maintaining that its mac and cheese doesn’t contain any artificial flavors, preservatives, or dyes.
“Generations of families have enjoyed KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese, which contains no artificial flavors, preservatives, or dyes. We stand fully behind our product and are proud of its quality,” said Kraft Heinz in a statement.

Kraft Heinz responded to our request for comment with the following statement:
“This was not a ruling on the merits of the claims, it was simply an early procedural motion. We strongly believe that this lawsuit has no merit and look forward to our day in court,” said Kraft Heinz.
This is not the first time Kraft Heinz has been sued. In July of last year, it was sued in Miami federal court for understating the time it took to prepare its microwavable Velveeta macaroni and cheese. However, the judge dismissed the lawsuit as it had no leg to stand on in court.
