Cocoa was one of the foods affected by the mass price increases, reaching an all-time high this January and surging to $10.75 per kilogram.

The rising cost of cocoa was driven by unpredictable weather fluctuations, especially in West Africa, which supplies around 70% of all cocoa worldwide. These fluctuations caused excessive rainfall and hotter temperatures, making it difficult to keep production consistent.

Hershey’s forms a strategic years-long partnership with Krispy Kreme
These shortages have hit chocolate manufacturers the hardest since chocolate is the key ingredient that keeps these companies in business, causing many to struggle with continuous sales declines.
The Hershey Company is one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in the world, with over 90 brands comprising snacks and confectionery.
However, despite the current cocoa shortage, it has remained profitable as it has branched out to other revenue-making sources for years, such as expanding its portfolio and forming partnerships with other successful companies.

In 2018, Hershey’s partnered with Krispy Kreme to launch the first-ever edition of the Chocomania Collection, which was a total success among consumers. Since then, the companies have launched various yearly editions of this collection.

On Mar. 19, Krispy Kreme ( (DNUT) ) and Hershey’s ( (HSY) ) announced they joined forces again to launch their yearly Chocomania Collection. This beloved partnership has become a yearly tradition for the brands and one of the most highly awaited launches by fans.
To make this year extra special, the collection features three brand-new doughnut flavors and one returning fan favorite, all with a delicious classic Krispy Kreme doughnut base and sweet Hershey’s milk chocolate.

The new Hershey’s Chocolate Salted Caramel Cheesecake Doughnut is an unglazed Krispy Kreme doughnut filled with Hershey’s caramel cheesecake-flavored Kreme dipped in Hershey’s milk chocolate icing, topped with chocolate cookie crumbs, and finished with a salted caramel swirl.
New Hershey’s Chocolate Buttercreme Doughnut
The new Hershey’s Chocolate Buttercreme Doughnut features an unglazed Krispy Kreme doughnut dipped in Hershey’s milk chocolate icing, topped with chocolate-flavored buttercreme, and sprinkled with semi-sweet chocolate curls.
