Summer is the ideal season to indulge in a refreshing scoop of ice cream on a real hot day.

Ice cream lovers will flock to Dairy Queen, Baskin-Robbins, Cold Stone Creamery or their favorite frozen dessert shop to satisfy their needs in the summer, as well as year-round.

But once a year, giant supermarket chain Kroger goes all-in on the ice cream competition to offer free pints of the frozen treat to tens of thousands of customers.

For the third year, Kroger is giving away pints of its private label ice cream for a limited time.

The Cincinnati-based supermarket chain will offer one of 100,000 free pints of Kroger Brand ice cream to each customer who downloads a limited time, single-use digital coupon at freekrogericecream.com beginning June 19 at noon Eastern time (11 a.m. Central and 9 a.m. Pacific) while supplies last, according to a company statement.

Coupons are redeemable at the Kroger Family of Stores locations from June 19 through July 3.

The free ice cream pint promotion is valid in all U.S. states, except California, Colorado, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Nevada.

Coupons not valid in 5 states

The company did not reveal why the coupons are not valid in the five U.S. states.

The company did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

Customers who are not able to take advantage of the free ice cream pint coupon offer can save $1 on the purchase of any two pints of Kroger Brand ice cream through July 3, which is valid in all Kroger Family of Stores locations, except for QFC stores.

Store has given away 1,000s of pints

Kroger in 2024 provided customers with 45,000 coupons for a free pint ice cream over 15 straight hours of sunlight during the June 20, 2024, Summer Solstice.

The grocery store chain followed up on June 20, 2025, giving away 92,000 coupons for free pints of Kroger Brand ice cream or 1,000 pints for each of summer’s 92 days.

“We’ve loved seeing customers come back year after year for their free pints and now, we’re going bigger than ever by giving away 100,000 pints,” Ann Reed, Kroger’s Group Vice President of Brands, said in a statement.

Customers can redeem the coupons for a pint of Kroger’s classic selections, such as Kroger Cookies ‘N Cream Ice Cream or Kroger Rocky Road Ice Cream, or try one from the grocery chain’s limited-time All-American Ice Cream Collection.
