Popular Las Vegas entertainer residencies eventually must come to an end.
Even current long-running residencies, such as 1970’s superstar Barry Manilow at Westgate Las Vegas, 1970’s teen idol Donny Osmond at Harrah’s Showroom and Mr. Las Vegas Wayne Newton at the Flamingo’s Bugsy’s Cabaret, will finally reach their end when they’ve run their courses.
But not one of them has indicated they will close their residency yet.
Sometimes residency producers misjudge the popularity of their production. This was the case with Broadway musical “Jersey Boys,” which had been presented at the Palazzo Theatre at the Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip beginning in 2008 before moving to Paris Las Vegas in 2011 and closing in 2016.

“Jersey Boys,” which musically tells the story of the iconic 1960’s rock band Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, returned to Las Vegas this year, but off the Strip that the 850-seat Showroom at The Orleans Hotel & Casino.
The latest production opened on Jan. 26, and producers had planned for the musical to run for three years, according to a statement in January.
Unfortunately, the new production was unable to generate profits at the off-Strip hotel-casino resort and closed down earlier than expected on July 7.
Several Las Vegas Strip headliner residencies have also closed over the last year, including country star Miranda Lambert’s “Velvet Rodeo” residency at Planet Hollywood’s Bakkt Theater that had its final show April 6.

Another country star, Luke Bryan, on Jan. 6 wrapped up his long residency at Resorts World Las Vegas, which began in 2022, and superstar singer Katy Perry on Nov. 4, 2023, finished her “Play” residency also at Resorts World after 80 shows that began in December 2021.

Rod Stewart closing long-running Strip residency
Finally, legendary rock superstar Rod Stewart closes his “The Hits” residency at Caesars Entertainment’s (CZR) The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Aug. 7 with the headliner’s 200th and final show after 13 years performing at the venue.

Since 2011, Stewart has presented an arena-sized concert in an intimate experience at The Colosseum with no seat more than 145 feet from the stage. He performs his classic hits in his show, including “Maggie May,” “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy,” Tonight’s the Night,” “Infatuation,” “You Wear It Well,” “The First Cut is the Deepest,” and “Every Picture Tells a Story.”
The two-time Rock and Rock Hall of Fame inductee, as a solo artist and with the Faces, has sold over 250 million records worldwide. Stewart has won three Grammy Awards, and in 2016, he was knighted as Sir Roderick Stewart by Prince William at Buckingham Palace.
“Sir Rod Stewart is a true rock legend, and we have had the great privilege of being his Las Vegas home at The Colosseum for more than a decade,” Jason Gastwirth, president of entertainment for Caesars Entertainment said in a November statement, when Stewart extended his residency for the last time.
“Throughout his residency, we’ve been amazed by Rod’s impeccable showmanship and superstar talent highlighting his timeless catalog of hits, and we are incredibly grateful for the countless memories he created for our guests,” Gastwirth said.
