It would be weird if you went to an expensive fine-dining restaurant in New York and it offered plastic forks and knives.

Even if the food was perfect and every other aspect of the meal was top-notch, the inferior cutlery would stand out.

When you pay for a luxury brand, you expect it to be luxurious in every way possible. A five-star hotel has high-end linens, toiletries, and even higher-ply toilet paper. Staff is impeccably dressed and every aspect of the experience will be (or at least should be) top-tier.

That made it noticeable that Norwegian Cruise Line’s Regent Seven Seas Cruises offered inferior internet. When most of the lower-end brands, including Norwegian itself, had upgraded to Elon Musk’s SpaceX’s Starlink internet, Regent Seven Seas still offered outdated service.

The cruise has changed that by installing Starlink on all six ships in its fleet, “providing guests with high-speed, unlimited WiFi as part of the voyage fare,” according to the cruise line.

Regent Seven Seas steps up

Regent Seven Seas made clear that it felt that adding Starlink was a needed improvement for its passengers.

“We are committed to providing an unrivaled experience for our discerning guests and are delighted to give luxury travelers the ability to share photos and videos, stream films, and enjoy other immersive content on board at even faster speeds,” said Regent Seven Seas President Andrea DeMarco.

“As the leaders in all-inclusive ultra-luxury cruising, this installation of Starlink WiFi across our entire fleet will not only improve our guests’ ability to communicate with loved ones at home, but also support the ship’s operational needs and services.”

Both Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Lines have installed Starlink across all their brands. The service has quickly become the standard for cruise ship internet.

Regent Seven Seas operates using an all-inclusive model.

“Travelers receive a complimentary login per suite, which offers unlimited WiFi. Guests may opt to purchase additional suite log-ins and also upgrade the connection to enable passengers to surf, stream, and share like never before at sea,” the cruise line shared.

Starlink, which uses low-Earth orbit satellites, will improve the capacity, speed and reliability of on-board internet.
