It’s been a rough year for the New York Yankees.
The Yankees are wrapping up one of its worst seasons in decades, and its last home game on Sept. 25 was another reminder of just how low its gotten this year for one of the most celebrated and successful franchises in the history of sports.
The Yankees’ rainy home finale — a 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks — saw an announced crowd of 41,096. That’s a tick more than the team’s average attendance for the season of 40,862.

But the photos did not support the announced number.

To be fair to the Yankees, this game was a makeup game from the Saturday, Sept. 23 game that was postponed. And the announced crowd is based off of numbers from sold tickets, and not the actual attendees at the gate.
This was the turnout for the Yankees final home game of the season.
It was a makeup game — but the announced attendance was 41,096.

The rescheduled game had a few more ingredients for a grim crowd. The Yankees were also officially eliminated from playoff contention after losing to the Diamondbacks the day prior to the rescheduled contest, and the rain that hovered over New York City all weekend long had still not let up.
The ghost town scene was a pretty fitting way to end the disastrous season for the Yankees, at least by their standards. The team is still above .500, currently sitting at 79-77. But with a win percentage of .506, the Yankees are on pace for their worst record since 1992.
