We’ve already seen leaked renders of the so-called Google Pixel Fold. Now, YouTuber Dave2D has obtained what looks like a dummy model of the phone, supposedly made for case manufacturers. While there’s no hardware in the case model, the YouTuber’s been told it’s dimensional accurate. This means that the camera positioning, hinge design, bezels, etc, are the same on the dummy as on the actual Pixel Fold.
The case model suggests that the Pixel Fold is super thin, measuring just 5.7mm. This makes it thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 when unfolded. It also looks like the two halves of the Pixel Fold shut flush with each other, unlike the Samsung foldable, which has a gap when folded. This suggests Google might be using a droplet-style hinge, similar to the ones on the Oppo Find N2 and Motorola Razr 2022. In fact, Dave2D was told the Pixel Fold will have a hinge similar to the Oppo foldable.
We also get a look at mock-ups of the screen in the folded and unfolded state. When folded, the Pixel Fold seemingly has a wider screen than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Unfolded, it has thicker bezels at the top and bottom. The good thing about it is that the camera rests on the top bezel and doesn’t interfere with the inner display.
The video also shows that the speakers are placed on the top left and bottom right of the phone. That means stereo sound is on the cards.
