Fans of high-end steakhouses are devastated whenever one of their favorite local establishments announces a closing.
Steakhouse restaurants face many of the same challenges that other restaurants and retail establishments have dealt with, which include rising costs of labor and products driven by inflation, increased costs of debt from rising interest rates, high lease rates that do not make economic sense, and changing attitudes of consumers toward dining at restaurants.

The names of some of the top restaurants in the industry include Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Morton’s Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, and Shula’s Steakhouse.

Most recently, Ruth’s Chris closed its Boca Raton, Fla., location on May 11, 2025, after 25 years in business, The Boca Raton Observer reported. The restaurant did not state a reason for the closing.
Morton’s Steakhouse, a competitor of Ruth’s Chris, closed a couple of its restaurants in Dallas and Cincinnati after their leases expired. The Dallas restaurant, which had been open for 37 years, closed on Dec. 31, 2024, while the Cincinnati location that had been operating for 34 years closed on Jan. 2, 2025.
Popular steakhouses shut their doors
The Capital Grille has also closed locations recently, including a downtown Los Angeles restaurant on May 11. However, fans of the restaurant can soon enjoy the restaurant in Northern California as a new location will open on June 30 outside of Sacramento in Roseville, Calif., near the Westfield Galleria mall.
Shula’s Steakhouse locations also have been closing, including an iconic restaurant at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, which has been open since 1999.
Shula’s, named for legendary Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula, revealed in April that it will close its restaurant on June 14, AL.com reported.Â
James Beard Award-Winning Chef Michael Mina plans to open his Bourbon Steak restaurant, which has locations in 10 cities across the nation, including Charlotte; Delray Beach; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; Nashville; New York; Orange County, Calif.; Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Washington, D.C.

Nusr-Et closes high-end steakhouseÂ
And now, popular high-end steakhouse Nusr-Et revealed that it will close its iconic Beverly Hills, Calif., location in June as part of a broader realignment to focus on international growth, after closing its Dallas and Las Vegas restaurants in January 2025.

As part of the company’s commitment to adjusting its footprint in line with guest demand, travel trends, and regional opportunity, Nusr-Et said it plans to open new restaurants in Cappadocia, Turkey, in June, Milan in the third or fourth quarter of 2025, Mexico City in the fourth quarter of 2025 or first quarter of 2026, as well as Rome and Ibiza in 2026, according to a June 4 statement.

“We’re excited to bring Nusr-Et to these incredible cities, each with its own culinary identity and vibrant dining scene,” Akın Tavuz, board member of Nusr-Et, said in a statement. “Our growth is focused on markets that align with our vision for excellence, energy, and global brand recognition.”
The restaurant chain will continue to operate successful locations in Miami and New York, the statement said.
The popular high-end steakhouse chain, which was founded by Nusret Gökçe, operates over 25 locations worldwide.
