For some consumers, this familiar restaurant has become part of their routine for the last 10 years, a place to grab a meal, meet friends, or celebrate a special occasion, and create memories.
Now, some of those customers are losing that option as the chain has closed nearly all its locations in 2026. After operating multiple restaurants, just one location remains.
The shutdowns leave consumers in affected communities with fewer familiar choices and mark the end of the chain’s years-long presence in those areas.
But while most of its footprint has disappeared, the brand may not be gone for good.
Founded in 2016, State Fare Kitchen & Bar is a Texas-inspired restaurant and bar owned by Culinary Khancepts. The chain is known for its comfort food, drink flights, and lively social atmosphere, and previously operated three locations across the Houston area.
State Fare Kitchen & Bar closes nearly all restaurants in 2026
State Fare Kitchen & Bar has closed two of its three restaurants in 2026, significantly reducing its physical footprint and leaving just one remaining location.
The closed restaurants include:
- Memorial City: The flagship location at 947 Gessner Road Ste B 190 in Houston, Texas, closed on May 31, 2026, after 10 years in business.
- Sugar Land: The restaurant at 15930 City Walk in Sugar Land, Texas, closed in January 2026 after six years.
The shutdowns leave State Fare Kitchen & Bar’s restaurant at 1900 Hughes Landing, Ste 200 in The Woodlands, Texas, as its only remaining location.
State Fare Kitchen & Bar has not publicly provided an exact reason for the two closures.
The Woodlands restaurant is the newest of the chain’s three locations, having opened in 2022. The restaurant operates under a long-term lease with The Howard Hughes Corporation.
For customers who previously had a State Fare Kitchen & Bar location closer to home, the closures mean fewer opportunities to visit the restaurant without having to travel farther.
State Fare Kitchen & Bar could make a comeback
Although the chain has dramatically reduced its footprint, Culinary Khancepts has indicated that the State Fare Kitchen & Bar could return in a new form.
The restaurant group has teased a “bold new evolution” of the concept, including plans for a new 15,000-square-foot location designed as a next-generation social dining destination.
According to the company, the planned concept would feature a refreshed menu and an interactive atmosphere built around games and social experiences.
“This brand has always been about bringing people together and creating moments that guests remember,” Culinary Khancepts Founder and CEO Omar Khan said in a statement reported by CultureMap Houston.
“What’s coming next builds on everything people loved about State Fare, while taking the experience to an entirely new level.”
Culinary Khancepts said additional details about the new location would be released in the coming weeks.
The company’s plans indicate it intends to continue the State Fare Kitchen & Bar brand despite reducing its current restaurant footprint. However, for now, only one State Fare Kitchen & Bar location remains open.
Restaurant chains are continuing to shrink their footprints
State Fare Kitchen & Bar is among several restaurant brands that have reduced their physical presence in 2026, with some closing individual locations and others shutting down their remaining restaurants in certain markets.

The closures come as restaurant operators continue to reassess their physical footprints amid shifting consumer demand and market trends.
Higher costs have also contributed to pressure across the restaurant industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices for food away from home increased 3.4% in the 12 months ending August 2026, putting additional pressure on consumers and restaurant operators.
For consumers, the result can be a reduction in the number of familiar restaurants available in their communities, even when the broader restaurant industry continues to operate.
In State Fare Kitchen & Bar’s case, two closures have already left customers with a single location to choose from. The potential new restaurant could eventually give the brand another physical presence, but for now, customers have just one State Fare Kitchen & Bar location to visit.
