Though Sony’s initial plans to release Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024 didn’t quite work out, the film finally has a new premiere date that seems like it will stick.

Last night at this year’s CinemaCon expo, Sony announced that it now intends for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to hit theaters a little over two years from now on June 4th, 2027, according to Variety. Along with the new date and a trailer screened for CinemaCon attendees, Sony released a handful of new images from the film featuring Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Miles G. Morales (Jharrel Jerome), and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld).

In 2022, Sony announced that it planned for Beyond the Spider-Verse to debut in late March of 2024 just a year after the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (then simply known as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II). As questions were raised about how Sony could churn out another Spider-Verse feature so quickly, reports alleging the studio overworked Across the Spider-Verse’s animators began to break. The 2024 release window was ultimately scuttled by production delays related to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. And while production resumed by December of 2023, Sony elected not to give it a tentative theatrical premiere date.

At CinemaCon this week, Beyond the Spider-Verse’s co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, and producer Phil Lord insisted that all of these delays were for the project’s benefit, as reported by Gizmodo. That’s not hard to believe given just how many human resources (read: artists working feverishly) it takes to get these movies across the finish line. But after such a long wait, audiences might need a little convincing that this third installment is going to be another stunner.
