Opening Bell
The U.S. markets are now open and… it’s looking rough. Despite the House of Representatives casting the necessary vote to reopen the government last night, traders are not celebrating today. The Nasdaq (-1.09%) is already down more than 1% today, while the S&P 500 (-0.60%) and small cap-oriented Russell 2000 (-0.30%) are also in decline. Even the Dow (-0.17%), which has stood up as a model index these last few days despite declines from the other major indexes, is in decline today as well.

Data + Events Today: Hassett & Hammack

Greater clarity could come from National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett as he provides remarks this morning. And this afternoon, we might get additional color on the picture at the Fed as we emerge from the longest shutdown in history, courtesy of the Fed’s Beth Hammack (1:20 p.m.)
