Whenever a superstar headliner cancels or postpones a Las Vegas Strip residency show, fans are extremely disappointed.

Ticketholders make advance plans that include buying airline tickets, making hotel room reservations, securing paid time off from work, and any number of other arrangements.

In most cases, performers will postpone shows as a result of illness and reschedule performances. Sometimes shows can’t be rescheduled because of conflicting dates and those shows will be canceled with tickets refunded.

On rare occasions, full residencies have been postponed, or even in rarer situations, canceled without being rescheduled.

Illness was the main culprit for superstar singer Adele postponing her originally planned 24-show “Weekends With Adele” residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace that was set for Jan. 21 through April 16, 2022.

Adele moved the beginning of those shows to Nov. 18, 2022, after members of her crew contracted Covid-19 and some of the set pieces designed for the performance were not ready.

Adele eventually performed 100 shows during the residency that ended on Nov. 23, 2024.

Singer Christina Aguilera postponed two shows on Jan. 5-6, 2024, at Voltaire in Apollo Global Management’s  (APO)  the Venetian Resort Las Vegas suffering from a case of the flu. Aguilera rescheduled those shows for April 12-13 and extended her residency for an additional 10 shows, ending on Aug. 3, 2024.

Santana cancels half of its scheduled residency

More recently, legendary rock band Santana canceled the first eight shows of its 2025 residency at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Vegas, which was set to begin Jan. 22, due to frontman Carlos Santana breaking a finger in an accidental fall at his vacation home in Hawaii.

The eight shows were not rescheduled and all tickets were automatically refunded.

Santana is set to perform the remainder of the residency after he recovers on May 14, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, 24, and 25, 2025.

The band announced on Instagram that the residency would not move forward due to “current circumstances.”

“To our dearest Peabodies, It is with a heavy heart that, in light of current circumstances, our Las Vegas shows will not be moving forward as planned,” Black Eyed Peas wrote in an Instagram Stories post.

“Ticket providers will issue full refunds automatically. Stay tuned for updates on future performances by following us — we can’t wait to see you again,” the message read.

The band did not state what “current circumstances” required a cancellation of the residency.

The cancellation is a big letdown for the group and its fans after the band launched “Black Eyed Peas: 3008 The Las Vegas Residency” with a space-themed video on the group’s website on Sept. 10.

The band scheduled a total of 15 shows, with five in each month of February, March, and May 2025.

“Our first residency in Las Vegas gives Black Eyed Peas the opportunity to do what we do best, to dream up something brand new and creative that pushes the boundaries of the live show experience,” Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am said in a statement when the shows were announced.

Unfortunately, will.i.am and bandmates Apl.de.Ap and Taboo won’t get a chance to perform the new interactive show they were promising for the residency.
