If you’re looking for a great deal on a new lawn mower, don’t overlook the eco-friendly convenience of a good cordless electric. I’ve owned the $300 Greenworks 40V Push Lawn Mower for four years, and Amazon is selling it for just $210 right now. It’s a worthwhile investment — and when you factor in the $90 savings and all the money you’ll save on gasoline, it quickly pays for itself.
Greenworks 40V Push Lawn Mower, $210 (was $300) at Amazon
The mower runs on a replaceable 40V lithium-ion battery, which works universally across the Greenworks 40V series of lawn-care tools. Charging the battery takes one to two hours, and a full charge is good for about 40 minutes of continuous mowing, depending on variables like the length of your grass. If you’ve got a good-sized yard, you might consider buying a backup battery. Otherwise, plan on mowing the front lawn, recharging the battery for an hour or two, and then finishing up with the back lawn.
If you’ve never used one, you’ll be surprised how easy it is to make the transition from a gas-powered mower to a cordless electric. This one is extremely lightweight, but it’s still a push mower, so you’ll get a bit of good exercise with it.
I also love the charging base that comes with it; a large light on the front lets you know when the battery is in cooldown mode immediately after use, when it’s charging, and when it’s ready to go again. You push a small unlock lever on the battery to remove it from the mower or charger, and you’ll feel a big click when it’s properly in place again.
There are plenty of great reasons to make the switch from gas-powered mowers to an affordable cordless electric, from all the money you’ll save to minimizing your impact on the environment. And the Greenworks 40V Push Lawn Mower has been a phenomenal investment for me — one of the best purchases I’ve made in the last four years.
