Sitting at dinner during the 5 p.m. early setting, my tablemate, a former Coast Guard officer, noticed that our ship had fully stopped moving. That’s not typical, he explained, given that we had just left port and should theoretically be picking up speed as we head toward international waters.
Instead, we were completely still which suggested that perhaps we were having a propulsion problem or otherwise struggling to get the ship moving forward.

“I was looking at the horizon and it did not appear we were pushing any wake, Then I looked back at the propulsion and it was just churning underneath the ship rather than pushing us ahead,” said Dennis Post, partner at PostCard Travel Planning, Come Cruise With Me’s travel agent partner. “I could also see a Carnival ship off in the distance and were not moving relative to it.
The captain made an announcement at about 5:30 that we had stopped to wait for the other ships leaving Port Canaveral to clear the area. Once that happened, we were going to return to the port due to a medical emergency onboard.

Voyager of the Seas brings injured passenger ashore
While the captain did not announce the specific injury, word spread around Voyager of the Seas that a man had broken his hip.
It took some time for the multiple other ships leaving from Port Canaveral to clear the narrow channel before Voyager of the Seas was able to begin heading quickly back to port where we were met by smaller ships that helped guide the ship in.
Instead of docking where we had left from, Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas, docked qt the first available spot, which is typically a Carnival-owned dock.
The ship docked (again) in the 7 p.m. hour and passengers flocked to the outside areas on Deck 4 to watch the injured man. being removed from the ship.
He was successfully removed via stretcher and gave a hearty wave as he was loaded into the ambulance.
Voyager of the Seas quickly left Port Canaveral again after the man was taken off the ship.

Because the ship had to clear international waters, Voyager’s casino and onboard shops remained closed until roughly 9 p.m.
Passengers who were watching the ship dock and the man being removed applauded as he gave the thumbs up signal.
