The last couple of years have been tough for consumers. Inflation has driven up the cost of everything from gas and groceries to apparel and furniture. 

Since 2019, the consumer price index for some categories has hit double digits, and a handful of the numbers are definitely a shock to the wallet.

Housing has seen a five-year price change of +29.3%. Food and beverages are up the same amount. Fuel and utilities are up 28.5% (all according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Experian). And the list goes on. 

So when major retailers announce they are cutting prices and offering special Easter meal bundles at prices the same as or lower than least year’s, it’s worth a second look. 

Notably, none of the retailers are including eggs in their Easter deals. 

Several major grocers are trying to keep prices low for Easter, meeting or beating last year’s prices.

Target Easter meal deal

Target is offering a basket of Easter meal items — nine items in all — for $25, which the company says will feed five people. 

The Easter meal is part of Target’s “garden party” seasonal offers both in-store and online.

The Easter meal bundle includes:

Market Pantry Hickory Smoked Spiral-Cut Bone-In Ham

Favorite Day Take and Bake Baguettes

Good and Gather French Fried Onions

Del Monte Pineapple Slices In 100% Juice 20 oz.

Heinz Home Style Roasted Turkey Gravy

Walmart Easter meal deal

Walmart announced it is selling all of the ingredients for a traditional Easter meal, including ham, ingredients for deviled eggs, sweet potatoes, and apple pie for less than $6 per person. Walmart said the cost is below its 2024 prices. 

Walmart’s meal serves eight people and includes:
