With the first whiff of winter weather starting to set in on many parts of the United States, many are already starting to dream about a sunny getaway in December, January or February.
And as airlines make the most money from those who feel that spontaneous bout of wanderlust, locking in a getaway early is the most reliable way to score some deals.
At the moment, Alaska Airlines (ALK) is in the last stretch of its “Winter Getaway” sale, offering discounted fares to both warm places like Hawaii and New Mexico and ski destinations such as Vail, Sun Valley and Steamboat Springs.

The sale has been running for the last two days and ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Nov. 14 (that’s today!). The fares, which include a $49 flight between Boise and Montana’s Bozeman and $119 flights to Honolulu from San Francisco and San Jose, are for travel between December 5 and March 19, 2025.

For those who have Hawaii specifically on the mind, Southwest Airlines (LUV) is currently also holding a sale on popular routes to Honolulu, Maui and the Big Island.
The promo code HAWAII40 will get one 40% off such routes from different parts of the U.S. between Dec. 3 and May 22, 2025 but there are significant blackout periods throughout the holidays and popular spring break periods in February and March.
The sale also ends on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 11:59 p.m. PST and is valid for flights from cities such as Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland among others. As an airline based on the West Coast, Southwest has been working to carve out a significant slice of the market of Hawaii sun-seekers.
Meanwhile, Icelandic low-cost airline Play has similar sales for flights between East Coast U.S. cities like New York and Washington and European capitals like Paris, London, Amsterdam, Reykjavik and Athens.
The airline uses the low-cost model of charging $250 on certain flights to Europe in one direction and then adding additional fees for things like baggage and seat selection but also holds periodical flight sales in which the same routes are available for as little as $99 in each direction.
