No other member of the British Royal Family stirs quite up as much fascination — or controversy — as Prince Harry, but leaving “The Firm” along with his wife, Meghan Markle, only added millions to his net wealth.

The youngest son of King Charles and the late Princess Diana, Harry is fifth in line to the British throne, but in January 2020, he and Meghan announced their intentions to “step back” as senior members of the Royal Family so that they could raise their children away from the prying eyes of the British media.

By doing so, Harry vowed to become financially independent while continuing to support the monarchy — his actions were more akin to a “stepping back” than a “stepping down,” he told James Corden during an appearance on “The Late Late Show” in 2021.

But becoming “financially independent” effectively meant being cut off from the $28 billion money machine that Harry was born into. The British monarchy owns a lavish portfolio of castles, properties, jewels, assets, and investments. It also receives supplemental funding from the Sovereign Grant, a multi-million-pound allowance funded by British taxpayers. When they quit being senior Royals, Harry and Meghan were even stripped of their security detail.

However, pausing their Royal duties provided the Sussexes with “the space to focus on the next chapter,” in their own words, and so, in just a few years’ time, they’ve skillfully used their fame to land multi-million-dollar deals with brands like Netflix and Spotify as well as additional wealth through speaking engagements and investments.

Harry also wrote a bestselling memoir in January 2023, and, in January 2025, won an estimated $12 million in damages from the publisher of “The Sun,” Britain’s most sensational tabloid.

So, what’s his net worth now?

What is Prince Harry’s net worth in 2025?

According to most sources, Harry’s net worth stands at $60 million in 2025. He inherited $10 million from Princess Diana when he turned 25 and another $8.5 million from The Queen Mother (his great-grandmother), on his 40th birthday in 2024.

Since Harry is also Queen Elizabeth’s grandson, it’s likely she included him in her will before her death on September 8, 2022, although specifics have yet to be disclosed.

According to Forbes, in his former life as a working Royal, Harry received an estimated $800,000 yearly allowance from the Duchy of Cornwall. In addition, he and Meghan were provided with $3 million for renovations to their Frogmore Cottage in Berkshire, England. However, after giving up their Royal duties, they voluntarily paid this sum back in September 2021.

Forbes also reported that Harry and Meghan only had about $10 million to their name in 2021, which means they’ve made a lot of smart money moves — and fast.

How can Prince Harry make money?

The saying goes, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” but Prince Harry is actually able to make more money independently than he would as part of the Royal Family.

The reason has to do with the way the monarchy is structured: All Royal members are expected to use their platform for public service rather than personal gain. And as Harry details in his 2023 memoir “Spare,” the Royal Family stubbornly relied on outdated systems, like the Royal Rota, to spread the word about their goings on.

This group of British journalists often pitted Royals against each other for their share of positive publicity, which limited Harry’s ability to control his own narrative and resulted in a very negative public image.

As an independent, Harry no longer merely exists inside the fishbowl but instead is free to speak for himself. And he can use his platform to raise awareness — and money — for issues that matter most to him, such as Veterans’ causes and mental health.

Prince Harry’s early life and career

Harry’s life is filled with soaring highs and crushing lows — all of which have been well chronicled by the British media. In fact, Harry blames the paparazzi for his mother’s tragic death in Paris in 1997, as photographers stood around her crashed vehicle as she lay dying inside, snapping photos instead of offering assistance.

Best known simply as Harry, Charles and Diana’s second son was born on September 15, 1984. His full name is Henry Charles Albert David, and he was raised at Kensington Palace in London along with his older brother, William. Their family often spent weekends at Highgrove House, their country home in Gloucestershire, and summers at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, but due to Charles’ ongoing affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, he and Diana separated in 1992. Their divorce was finalized in 1996.

Harry attended private boarding schools, although he admits he was a better athlete than a student. He followed in William’s footsteps by enrolling at Eton College for his secondary education, although the media published reports that Harry was drinking and using marijuana, which he later admitted were true. The tabloids also alleged that he cheated on his final exams, which was proven false.

After graduating in June 2003, Harry spent a “gap year” in Africa and Australia, devoting time to his charitable ventures. Botswana, in particular, holds a special place in Harry’s heart, he says, as the place that helped him find “his purpose.”

In May 2005, Harry entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, a rigorous British officer training program. He was about to be deployed to Iraq when the British Army received threats about him as a “high-value target,” so he was sent instead to Afghanistan, where he served as an air traffic controller for combat aircraft. Although his performance was excellent, he was pulled from the combat zone because leaked media coverage had placed him and his fellow soldiers at risk.

Returning home, Harry received training as an Apache helicopter pilot and was promoted to the rank of captain. He was again deployed to Afghanistan and served there for 20 weeks, killing a total of 25 Taliban.

On his flight home, Harry became moved by the sight of fellow wounded servicemen and women, and so he formulated the idea to create a Paralympic-style sporting event for injured soldiers. He hosted the first Invictus Games in London in 2014, bringing together 400 competitors from 13 nations. It was widely considered a success.

Prince Harry retired from military service in 2015 in order to focus on his charitable work with the Invictus Games and Sentebale, which was founded in 2006 in his late mother’s honor to help people in Africa affected by HIV and AIDS. (He and co-founder, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, stepped down from the charity in March 2025 due to reports of executive staff mismanagement.)

But Harry’s harassment from the media only intensified, and he was routinely followed and even chased by paparazzi, as they could make hundreds of thousands of pounds off a single photo. Harry began experiencing panic attacks and displaying symptoms of PTSD, and he self-medicated through drugs and alcohol.

Prince Harry’s personal life

Harry met Chelsy Davy during his year in South Africa, and the two dated between 2004 and 2011. After their relationship ended, he entered a two-year romance with British actress Cressida Bonas from 2012 to 2014 before the media attention proved to be too much for her to handle.

Harry also briefly dated TV personality Caroline Flack, who tragically committed suicide in 2020. In “Spare,” Harry said he believed that the intense media scrutiny she faced as a result of their time together was partly to blame.

But Harry’s greatest love — and later his wife — actually came about through a very public source: Social media. Harry was scrolling through Instagram and saw a picture of Meghan with his friend, Violet von Westenholz. Instantly captivated, he asked Violet to put him in touch with the actress.

Harry and Meghan’s first date was at Soho House in London, but due to heavy traffic (and the fact that Harry was too famous to get out of the car and walk), Harry was 30 minutes late. Luckily, Meghan forgave him.

Just a few weeks into their relationship, Harry invited Meghan to accompany him on a safari in Botswana, where they began to fall in love — Harry was particularly impressed with Meghan’s philanthropic interests, later gushing that his mother Diana would love Meghan and that they’d be “thick as thieves.” Harry and Meghan vowed never to be apart from each other for more than two weeks, even though Meghan was in the midst of filming the USA Network series “Suits” in Toronto, Canada.

After dating for about a year, Harry and Meghan got engaged. They were married on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel, where approximately 100,000 spectators lined the route to watch the couple ride by in a custom carriage.

1.9 billion viewers in 180 countries saw the wedding on television, and the event is estimated to have generated $1.2 billion for the British economy.

But the media scrutiny was relentless; in fact, it only got worse after the pair wed. Reports of Meghan being “difficult” to her staff and other members of the Royal family became commonplace.

Harry and Meghan sat down for an interview with Oprah in March 2021, revealing that when Meghan became pregnant, one Royal even made racist remarks, questioning what color the baby’s skin would be. Harry found Meghan in tears on the floor one evening, saying that she no longer wanted to live.

We all know what the British press can be like, and it was destroying my mental health. This was toxic. So I did what any husband, what any father, would do. I needed to get my family out of here.”

Meghan gave birth to their son, Archie, on May 6, 2019. A few months later, in January 2020, the young family packed their bags and left England, first arriving in Vancouver, Canada, where they spent a few weeks at the home of a friend.

After the media discovered their hiding spot, Harry and Meghan relocated to Los Angeles, staying at the home of their friend Tyler Perry while they looked for a place of their own. Lilibet, their daughter, was born on June 4, 2021.

Prince Harry’s business interests

Prince Harry has wisely used his celebrity to both tell his side of the story and raise money for his philanthropic causes.

Netflix

Harry and Meghan’s “mega deal” with Netflix, signed in September 2020, was reportedly worth $150 million over five years. It included the creation of their own production company along with scripted content, documentaries and children’s programming.

“Harry & Meghan,” a six-part documentary series detailing the couple’s “complex journey” was the first product of the deal. 2.1 million viewers watched in its first four days alone, making it Netflix’s all-time biggest documentary debut.

“With Love, Meghan,” a cooking and lifestyle show starring Harry’s wife, is the second series that has resulted from the deal. After 526,000 viewers tuned into its first week, Netflix green-lit a second season.

Spotify

In December 2020, Harry and Meghan inked a three-year podcasting deal with Spotify worth $25 million. Archetypes, Meghan’s podcast, interviewed celebrities like Serena Williams and Mariah Carey and won the People’s Choice podcast award in 2022.

However, in June 2023, Spotify, Harry, and Meghan released a joint statement saying that they had “mutually agreed to part ways.”

Books

Harry signed a four-book publishing deal with Penguin Random House in 2021 estimated to be worth $20 million. “Spare,” Harry’s memoir and the first book from the deal, was released in January 2023. It sold over 1.4 million copies in its first day, making it the fastest-selling nonfiction book in history.

Harry announced that he would be donating $1.5 million from book proceeds to his Sentebale charity, along with $380,000 to another interest, WellChild.

Speaking engagements

In June 2020, Harry signed a deal with the Harry Walker Agency, which books engagements with high-profile celebrities around the world. His speaking engagements are said to be worth between $500,000 and $750,000 each, and he has made appearances at the AIDS 2020 Conference, Project Healthy Minds, and the Veterans’ Mental Health Conference, to name a few.

Startup investments

Another one of Prince Harry’s many titles is chief impact officer for the mental health startup BetterUp, which offers mental health services and coaching to patients online. He and Meghan have also invested in several small businesses, including Ethic, a financial services company, and the coffee brand Clevr.

Prince Harry’s charities

One of the first things Harry and Meghan did after stepping back from Royal duties was to create their nonprofit organization, the Archewell Foundation. Named after their son, its mission is to “uplift and unite communities, both local and global, online and offline.”

If you are in a position of privilege, if you can put your name to something that you genuinely believe in, you can smash any stigma you want, and you can encourage anybody to do anything.

In addition, Harry founded the Invictus Games Foundation, which organizes the semi-annual Invictus Games sporting events for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, taking place in London (2014), Orlando (2016), Toronto (2017), Sydney (2018), The Hague (2022), Düsseldorf (2023), and Vancouver (2025). The next games are set to occur in Birmingham, England in 2027.

The charity also served as executive producer on the documentary “Heart of Invictus,” as part of a partnership with Archewell Productions.

In 2006, Harry, along with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, co-founded Sentebale, a charity that raised funds for people in Africa affected by HIV and AIDS. However, in March 2025, Harry announced that he and Price Seeiso would be leaving the charity over a dispute with the chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka.

Harry said he was “in shock” and “truly heartbroken” over this turn of events. In response, Chandauka has accused Harry of bullying and harassment.

Prince Harry’s real estate portfolio

The town of Montecito, California, is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains, and is known for its secluded privacy and stunning views, all a short, two-hour drive from Los Angeles. The area is home to a roster of A-list celebrities, and Harry and Meghan count Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Rob Lowe as neighbors.

According to Architectural Digest, Harry and Meghan’s mansion features 187,000 square feet of living space with nine bathrooms, 16 bedrooms, a separate guesthouse, a tea house, and a swimming pool. The couple purchased the home for $14.65 million in 2020 and were said to have taken out a $10 million mortgage, paying the rest in cash.

In the past five years, the home has doubled in value and is now currently worth $29 million, according to Zillow.

What is Prince Harry’s last name?

Prince Harry doesn’t actually have a last name. Instead, his surname is derived from the titles he’s been given; growing up, he was the Prince of Wales, and his military records listed him as “Harry Wales.”

Before his marriage to Meghan Markle, Queen Elizabeth gave Harry a new title: Duke of Sussex, and so both Harry and Meghan now use Sussex as their last name.

Can Prince Harry be deported?

On March 18, 2025, a Washington DC district court judge released redacted versions of Harry’s U.S. immigration documents after the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank behind Project 2025, began legal proceedings against the former Royal, stating that he committed a felony by lying on his visa because he has admitted to using drugs in the past.

While the Trump administration continues to crack down on illegal immigrants, Trump himself has said he has no interest in deporting Prince Harry, telling The New York Post: “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
