Although it’s only one small part of the larger entertainment giant’s portfolio of theme parks and streaming services, Disney Cruises brought in more than $10 billion in operating income for the 2025 fiscal year.

The Walt Disney Company is currently in the process of significantly expanding its cruises branch with plans to nearly double its ship fleet from seven to 13 by 2031 as part of a wider $12 billion investment.

On March 10, the 6,700-passenger Disney Adventure will set off on its maiden journey from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore in a high-profile entry into the Asian market.

But for the time being, Disney’s newest and largest passenger ship will sail with very few port stops on three- and four-day itineraries designed to maximize time spent with Disney characters, experiences, and the wider brand, like in one of its theme parks.

Captain Jack Sparrow and “Pirates” cut from new Disney Adventure cruise ship

Prior to the first commercial sailing, the Disney Adventure made a media sailing with journalists and photographers — during which one of them observed that an initially planned “Pirates of the Caribbean” show featuring Captain Jack Sparrow has been postponed indefinitely.

Any reworked performance will, according to the reports, also not feature the main pirate character.

“Captain Jack Sparrow & The Siren Queen is no longer part of the entertainment lineup on the Disney Adventure,” Scott Gustin, a digital editor at Nexstar, wrote on X. “And at this time, there are no plans to offer the show on the ship in the future.”

The character show “Captain Jack Sparrow & The Siren Queen” was initially envisioned as the featured performance for the Disney Imagination Garden Stage inside the ship’s indoor courtyard.

The storyline centers around the protagonist from Disney’s blockbuster series of pirate films searching for buried treasure with the help of mermaids and sea creatures. It was planned alongside several other shows on the ship, including “Mickey’s Color Spin Dance Party” and the “Let’s Set Sail” performance on embarkation days.

A page showing renderings and photos of the set made to look like the bottom of the sea has also been scrubbed from the Disney website.

“Swashbuckling adventure helmed by Captain Jack Sparrow” axed indefinitely

At the time Disney first announced the lineup in October 2024, it described the Jack Sparrow show as “a swashbuckling adventure helmed by the roguish and charming Captain Jack Sparrow.”

While Disney has not officially commented on the axing of the show or what will take its place, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” brand has been mired in controversy since the allegations of domestic abuse against Jack Sparrow actor Johnny Depp were first made by his former spouse Amber Heard.

Disney dropped Depp from the role in 2018. After a Virginia court found Heard liable for defamation against the actor, the company attempted to bring him back, despite initial refusals (early rumors suggest that he is likely to return for the sixth film currently in production, according to Inside the Magic).

Depp was never slated to play the role of Jack Sparrow in the Adventure’s “Captain Jack Sparrow & The Siren Queen” show, but fans tracking the details of every entertainment option on the ship have expressed immediate disappointment that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” performance has been scrapped.
