A popular Ohio distillery and winery has unexpectedly closed after about five years in business, leaving customers shocked and disappointed and raising questions about its future.
The closing comes as the craft distillery industry faced economic challenges in 2025 that has spilled over into 2026.
The number of active craft distillers, which includes moonshine and specialty wine producers, declined by 25.6% from 3,069 to 2,282 in the year ending August 2025, according to the American Craft Spirits Association’s Craft Spirits Data Project 2025. The association has not yet released its 2026 report.
The decline in distillery numbers follows a decrease in production and sales results in 2024 as the industry produced 12.7 million cases of spirits in 2024, down 6.1% from 13.5 million in 2023 with sales falling in the same period by 3.3% to $7.58 billion.
The decline in business has led to distillery closings across the nation in 2026, such as Ohio-based Tuck-N-Red’s, which could lead to another overall decline in the number of distilleries for the year.

Tuck-N-Red’s distillery shuts down
Tuck-N-Red’s distillery and winery closed its spirits and wine production company and tasting room after opening its facilities five years ago.
The Yellow Springs, Ohio, spirits and wine maker in a June 17 Facebook post indicated that it had shut down its business.
“TnR has had a blast over the last 6 years! But… Time to roll out and roll on! To our people, One Love. Thank you for your support over the years! As for Yellow Springs, we’re no longer “A Good Fit,” the company wrote in the Facebook post.
Tuck-N-Red’s Facebook page had 112 comments by the end of the day on June 20, with most comments expressing sadness from the news of the distillery’s closing.
Customers comment on distillery closing

“No this is terrible!! I have such great memories here! Love you guys and wish you the best,” wrote Michelle Kennedy.
“Man! I’m very sad to hear this. I love Tuck-N-Red’s and always had a fantastic time there. I’m really gonna miss the shine and wine. Please tell me this isn’t the end or how I can get some more,” said Lamar Kennedy.
The distillery has not said whether it will open in another location, liquidate its assets, or file for bankruptcy.
A voicemail message on the website’s listed phone number did not mention Tuck-N-Red’s business. A business representative was not immediately available for comment. The distillery’s website was still operational at last check.
Distillery makes craft spirits
Tuck-N-Red’s opened in 2021 and began distilling Moonshine, including seven flavors such as Corn Likker, Green Apple, Blue Razzberry, Lemon Drop, Tie Dye Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler and Cinnamon Lightn’n.
The company also distilled Tuck-N-Red’s White Dog Sweet Tater Vodka and Tuck-N-Red’s White Dog The Spirit of Agave spirit.
The beverage company produced a variety of wines, including Strawberry Wine, Blueberry Wine, Rose Petal Wine, Pear Wine, Blackberry Wine, and Dandelion Wine.
Owners use 100-year-old recipes
Tuck-N-Red’s wines were produced with just fruits, floral, sugar, water, and yeast. The wines do not contain chemicals, tannins, or added sulfites. The wines have “a higher alcohol content and a little more sediment” than your typical wine, according to the company’s website.
The distillery owners claim to use their families’ 100-year-old moonshine recipes to distill their products.
The distillery’s moonshine and wine are sold at 16 bars, restaurants, and retailers in 9 Ohio cities, according to its website, while supplies last. The distillery also sold its wines online through its website before the distillery closed.
