I had an agency build a SAAS product for my company’s main eCommerce store, and it’s generating about $50k per year now in subscriptions. I’m considering hiring a PHP developer full-time / remotely to significantly increase the number of coding hours per month to expand the app (which would be an investment, but would be worth it, I believe).

Does anyone happen to have any thoughts on what level of experience / salary would be most conducive to a strong hire that I can lean on to take over the app (and execute a robust roadmap)? I’d want to structure it as a mix of salary + share in the upside. I’ve looked up “PHP salaries,” but I don’t have a strong sense of where in the salary spectrum / level of experience I should be looking.
$50-200k+
…because you literally mention nothing about the job, responsibilities, tech stack, etc.
Good devs will be skeptical of a heavily “share-based” offer – be prepared to back it up with actual revenue figures, not projections. As another comment mentions, there’s not enough info to give a salary estimate, but once you have more details it’s pretty easy to estimate with Glassdoor and LinkedIn.
