There are a lot of AV softwares that will flag just about anything that is not used by the general public.
There was a point in time where we my company was increasing security measures after some malware attack. Also develops had to use the AV software. It had to test any .exe that is didn’t know or wasnt whitelisted. Good luck writing or compiling software where .exes have to be whitelisted.
Took a while before the we could write software again normally after this.
At my old job, they updated the AV across all computers and made it more strict. Anything involving node went from taking seconds to finish to a minute or more. AV had to scan every NPM package and every file that passed through the typescript compiler. It wasn’t so bad locally as we rarely did NPM installs. What took us 1 minute on our local box though took over 6 minutes on our build box due to all the scanning. When us developers complained, they just replaced our laptops with slightly newer ones. The issue was still there, but less prevalent.
Haha I once made a software that opened WMI connections in a loop for monitoring purposes, AV thought that this was sketchy and immediately deleted my exe, I had to manually unroll the loop and that was enough for the AV to not delete my exe immediately. It’s so annoying having to fight against AV-software

Antivirus heuristics are not made public. So it’s tough to tell why a particular program would be flagged. Our desktop program would often be quarantined by Windows Defender, until we started signing it. Comodo offers them for about $80 a year, and you don’t need to renew if you’re not publishing any more app updates.
It’s a simple console app that takes a string from the commandline and sends it through a named pipe to a service. Nothing special.
When i don’t use “Produce Single File” it doesn’t throw the warning. Anyone else encountered this?
Jup I have, sort of, still produced a single file, but when using framework-dependent it would come back as a virus, even after having been sent in to avg and avasts’ viruslab for analysis, whereas if that program was compiled as self-contained it would come back clean, very weird..
They didn’t clear it til after I contacted them, but they wouldn’t tell me the reason why it did that, it was not considered a virus on scan though, only after opening it did the behaviourial scan kick in and give a false positive..

I think it’s because of som File IO code in the framework. Did you test non-self contained?

Once you are about to publish a piece of software you can send to to the big AV companies to have it whitelisted. I don’t have them beforehand but there are like 4 or 5 big companies. Some have a special email where you can send your files to, others have an ftp server. Anyway, it takes a couple of hours per release to do this, but then the chance of it being flagged are reduces significantly. Also signing your binaries help.
Most smaller AV softwares use the definition files of the bigger ones. So once the bigger ones know your software, then the smaller ones do also.
I use virustotal to get it out there. I also make sure I sign my executables, which makes it more reputable in their eyes.
