Most corporations have headquarters; few have museums devoted to the cultural impact their products have had around the world. But then again, few corporations are Coca-Cola, the world’s largest beverage company.
The company has had its home base in Atlanta, Georgia, ever since it was founded in 1886. It serves as the command center for Coca-Cola’s corporate operations, executive leadership, and global strategy.
But due to the massive popularity of its thirst-quenching beverages, Coca-Cola routinely found visitors knocking on its corporate doors, asking to see company memorabilia. So in 1990, it opened a museum downtown; in 2007, it relocated to an even bigger space in Centennial Olympic Park.
Today, Coca-Cola’s Atlanta footprint encompasses both sides of its identity: the corporate headquarters that manages one of the world’s most recognizable brands, and a museum where millions of visitors can experience — and taste — its refreshing history firsthand.
Where is Coca-Cola’s headquarters?
Coca-Cola is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, on a 30-acre corporate campus that features multiple office buildings. Its centerpiece is One Coca-Cola Plaza, a 29-story greystone tower completed in 1979 by local firm FEBRAP.
The building’s rather austere, Brutalist design, made of thick granite and deep-set windows, gives little indication of the creativity within. Its interior spaces, however, were reimagined in 2016 by Gensler, the same firm responsible for the headquarters of Walmart (WMT), Meta Platforms (META), and Apple (AAPL). Its design team whimsically incorporated elements of Coke history, placing a vintage yellow Coca-Cola delivery truck in the lobby and using crushed green bottle glass in the terrazzo flooring.
The design also referenced the curved lines of a Coke bottle throughout the building’s lower levels, including a meandering circulation path and a rotating wall of red-and-white disks that displays company messages envisioning the future.
The building also features artwork by famed Atlanta artist Greg Mike, whom Coke selected as creative director of its citywide mural campaign in 2022.
Taking a cue from its tech-forward peers, Coca-Cola added loads of employee amenities to its redesigned headquarters, including multiple food halls, a fitness and wellness center, and an on-site medical center, pharmacy, and credit union. And of course, fitting for a global brand, it has a large campus store with everything from hoodies to keychains emblazoned with its iconic red-and-white logo.
Where is the Coca-Cola Museum?
Officially known as the World of Coca-Cola, this homage to all things Coke must be seen to be believed — and there’s so much happening there, it even offers visitors the option to purchase an annual pass.
From the moment you see it, you know you’ve arrived: There’s a 62-foot Coke bottle encased in a frosted cube of “ice,” made from laminated glass and stainless steel, created by Novum. The entire block is illuminated at night, providing a stunning complement to the stylized red Coca-Cola sign that sits atop the nearby Olympia Building.
Once inside, visitors have a variety of hands-on exhibits to explore while sampling over 100 different Coke products, seeing historic memorabilia, and creating digital art and music.
But no visit is complete without a trip to the vault where Coca-Cola’s top-secret recipe lives — and where visitors can learn about its legendary history.
Can I tour Coca-Cola’s headquarters?
If you’re a member of the general public, the answer is a hard ‘no.’ Remember, the entire reason the World of Coca-Cola was built was to satisfy visitors’ curiosity.
Only registered employees and authorized guests are allowed into the Coca-Cola Tower. But trust us, the museum is a lot more interesting!
